Piedmont is first and foremost about the food and the ingredients with respect to the connection between the land and the plate. The cuisine is Contemporary American, seasonally focused and ingredient driven. Our menu changes daily based on what is currently available. Our mission is to provide access to well prepared, sustainably raised, local food. We use only local produce, seafood and meats from sustainable businesses to showcase the diversity of North Carolina foodstuffs. We focus on sourcing the best ingredients from local, sustainable producers with our guide being Coon Rock Farm. We are an elegantly casual restaurant that welcomes both the everyday diner as well as the special occasion gathering.

New Years night

Dinner with friends on New Years night. Nice contemporary feel to the inside. Service was attentive. General manager was very helpful with Spanish red wine selection. The group dined on sea bass, pork chop and short ribs. All entrees were well presented and delicious. A part of the really good... read more

We ate The Piedmont on New Year's Eve. We had a choice of a special New Year's Eve menu or their regular menu. We chose the special menu and were so glad we did. We had several courses, all unusual and beautifully prepared. We were out in time to go to DPAC with time to spare. It was a wonderful... More

I have eaten here twice. The chef is creative, the flavors are unusual. Both visits, people at my table enjoyed some of the entrees or sides but never the whole serving. The last visit our waiter tried to convince us that we should like the tastes that we did not. An interesting approach. Pricey.

Our table all ordered the New Year's Eve five course dinner. We all decided it was a WINNER even at $50 per diner. The oysters were the most interesting I have ever tasted and I cut my oyster teeth at Felixis' in New Orleans. The salad was a presentation of seasonal greens and uniquely fried cheeses. The tuna was prepared... More

No soft surfaces in the restaurant gives it a cold and noisy vibe. BUT the food and service more than make up for the surroundings! The pork chop was marvelous. The black bass so good I licked the plate. Everything is served on artisan stoneware. Deconstructed s'mores were out of this world! Excellent wine list

A group of 6 loved everything but the ice cream. Good service and delicious food. You'll love eating downtown.

As an older male, I try to avoid too much red meat but I was in the culinary capitol of pig and cow. I ordered short ribs largely because the dish included grits, green beans and some other green I can't recall. The meat seemed fatty but the taste was sensational. Seldom have I tasted anything so delicious. Unless you... More

I came with a group of 37 people (conference participants). They charged us $35 per set menu that was supposed to include an appetizer, main dish, dessert and 2 non-alcoholic drinks. The food options were so limited (I eat healthy food) that I basically did not have any choice. The salad was OK, but the main dish was ridiculously small... More

We came with a party of 5 and were seated right away with a reservation. The wine book is quite large, and there is a generous selection of wine by the glass, cocktails, etc. The dinner list is short, but impeccably planned. Portions here are small compared to many restaurants, but are what the right amount of food actually looks... More

If you like a long list of wines from which to choice, this is your place. The selection is great. For dinner, however, the choices are few. I there were only ten or so meals. The three of us enjoyed our meals, but we felt as if--due to the few choices--that we had to settle for something rather than chose... More
