Piedmont is first and foremost about the food and the ingredients with respect to the connection between the land and the plate. The cuisine is Contemporary American, seasonally focused and ingredient driven. Our menu changes daily based on what is currently available. Our mission is to provide access to well prepared, sustainably raised, local food. We use only local produce, seafood and meats from sustainable businesses to showcase the diversity of North Carolina foodstuffs. We focus on sourcing the best ingredients from local, sustainable producers with our guide being Coon Rock Farm. We are an elegantly casual restaurant that welcomes both the everyday diner as well as the special occasion gathering.

Creative farm to table cuisine

I had an excellent catfish dish with a great summer seasonal cocktail similar to a margarita with different ingredients. My dining partner enjoyed a huge pork chop. Good service, good food, nO pretentious waiters. Good experience.

Traveling thru Durham, I was given the recommendation from the hotel staff. Lots of variety to choose from and all very fresh and local. I had the Ribeye and my guest had the pork chop - we both locally grown and both very tasty meals. The interesting thing was that our server, MaryBeth, actually grew the potatoes the chef used... Enjoyed a Saturday evening date with my wife. Started with seared scallops and a local cheese plate paired with a Spanish white. Perfect. For the main course, we met Crawford, the director of wine, to give a little challenge-- I ordered catfish, and my wife had ribeye. He offered a few suggestions for a wine that would work well with... More

This is a restaurant we have enjoyed occasionally over 10 years of visiting Durham. The food is inventive and delicious, service well done, and tonight was no exception. It was interesting, though, when we got our bill to find that for pre-dinner drinks ordered "on the rocks" we were charged $1.50 for the rocks! I don't recall hearing anywhere that... More

I took 2 out of town business colleagues to Piedmont last night. We arrived and had a drink at the bar - I had an excellent Moscow Mule (only better if Piedmont had copper mugs). We moved on to our table - starting with salads. The beet salad was fantastic with balanced flavors. I chose the duck leg confit (although... More

I had a cocktail, soup (sweet potato & apple) and entree (pork chop). All three were prefect. Would highly recommend and would absolutely return. Looks like a great date spot. (Probably not for large groups though)

My m-in-law said her pork chop was the best of her life, and she's 82 so that's saying something! She wouldn't even let anyone taste it because she had to have it all to herself. We loved the atmosphere, the food was uniformly excellent, and the service was outstanding.

This is another place in the reborn Durham downtown area. The menu is limited and a little pricey since everything is ala carte. Out table ordered the scallops appetizer $10, sheepshead fish $27 and duck leg $25 and a couple $10 salads. The food is all very brown with lots of roots. Everything was very tasty. One good thing about... More

I make a lot of risotto at home, so don't usually order it in a restaurant but the carrot and ginger risotto on offer at Piedmont was too interesting to pass up. We both ordered it and it was delicious. For appetizer I had the smoked ham hock terrine which was served with grapefruit segments and some small pickled sweet... More

Durham is full of new and interesting restaurants with charm and style in the refurbished tobacco warehouse district. Piedmont has great style and ambiance and the food was good, although at times still a bit too southern (carmel corn decor with duck confit...really?). I had the pumpkin and sweet potato soup, good but also perhaps too sweet in a southern... More
