As others have said, you would not take someone here to impress them with the décor. Tables, benches and plastic tablecloths. The food was very good. We are not big seafood eaters so my daughter and I had the spiced S.C. shrimp and my wife crabcakes. Everyone enjoyed the meal. French fries and onion rings were excellent. I was a... More

We eat here regularly. I have been particularly impressed with the grilled catch of the day (latest was bigeye tuna). I've had fried shrimp and scallops on multiple occasions and loved them.

This was a wonderful experience for our family. The paper on the tables is not only good for catching all of the drippy seafood goodness, it is also a lovely canvas for drawing. The service was excellent - friendly and attentive. The food was fresh and fabulous. The kid's burger was no small patty. We had King crab legs and... More

We had just arrived back in the USA from a trip to India and were looking for some good old American fried food and cold beer. Fishmongers, as always, had just what we wanted. Fried oyster baskets all around with cole slaw, French Fries, and cold micro brews on tap. I have been there many times and it never disappoints.... More

My friends and I had lunch at Fishmonger's last week and enjoyed it very much. My husband and I had oyster baskets (plump, juicy oysters). One friend had catfish, and the other had steamed oysters (that he had to shuck himself). The service was good. The sweet tea was sweet. There is absolutely NOTHING fancy about this place. We sat... We had a very authentic Carolina costal lunch. Shrimp and scallops with tasty sides--smoked Mac and cheese and smoked jalapeño corn were two. Excellent choice of local area beers and some real down home deserts. Very attentive boss on scene and good service. Worth a detour off 85 if you are there at hungry time!

I ordered steamed oysters and cajun tenders with curry sauce. Great beers and ales available to go with your seafood. This was my first time eating steamed oysters (only had them raw before) and they were great. They were large, soft and tasty and served along with horse radish sauce along with lemon and a pot of melted butter. Cajun... More

Went with friends and family on an early Sunday afternoon to eat some good NC oysters, have a beer and check the NFL game scores. My brother and I ordered a peck of steamed oysters to split. Management should be embarrassed and drop Oyster House from the establishment name. The oysters were tiny, tasteless, and over cooked. I think the... More

Been here twice in past month while visiting Duke. This is a no frills, casual place that serves maybe the finest fried shrimp I've ever eaten (and I grew up on the Gulf Coast). Daily specials include fish, oysters, calamari, etc. They also have BBQ on the menu, but we didn't order any. Portions are large and the smoked sweet... More

Finally visited Fishmonger's after living in Durham for 2 years and always wondering about the place. The decor isn't the best in the world so it left me wondering where the food would land, but I was pleasantly surprised. The mussels were outstanding! Fresh & the sauce they're sauteed in great. The calamari (one of my faves) was delish! All... More
