Very nice room overlooking the golf course. Gigantic cups of coffee, made to order eggs and omelets (I had egg white veggie omelet and it was delicious)!

Sunday brunch at the Fairview in the Washington Duke Inn can't be beat in Durham. Friendly, delicious, quiet, just a special place for a wonderful meal. The brunch menu offers many choices and has the added surprise of a dessert bar. The piano player will take requests which makes for a special personal experience. The gardens, the inn, and grounds... More

I called in reservations for 8 people for lunch to celebrate my son's graduation from Lower School to Middle School. We arrived at 12:00 noon and were seated by 12:15 noon. Orders were taken by 12:20 pm and by 1:30 pm. 3 people in our party received lunch and 5 did not. The kids and my elderly mother order the... More

My husband and I dined at the Fairview Dining Room at the Washington Duke Inn with friends on a Saturday night. Although it was very crowded, we were seated right away. The staff was very professional. However, the service was excruciatingly slow. When a request was made for refills or a condiment, it took way too long to receive the... More

I've been to the Fairview Dining Room on numerous occasions because it is convenient to the Duke University campus, but it usually doesn't warrant a four-star rating. The service is sometimes sloppy (for this caliber of a restaurant), and the food can be disappointing--I've had terrible salads, and sometimes their vegetarian meals are bland. It is a great ambiance, and... More

My husband and I were celebrating a special birthday for him so we drove to Durham from New Bern to see a concert at DPAC and have a special dinner. We chose the Fairview restaurant at the Washington Duke Inn. The decor was stunning and the entire waitstaff was very attentive. Our specific waiter was helpful and knowledgeable about the... More

Atmosphere and decor, including classical pianist, was very nice for Sunday brunch. Food was innovative and fairly priced for quality. Monkfish and goat eggs benedict superb, as were desserts, soups and salad. Only slight negative was pace of service, slow to remove plates when finished and coffee refills and bringing check even after requested. Fix those small flaws and perhaps... More

The service was perfectly good and the wine list was not bad, but the food was absolutely nothing special. I started with the chowder, which was fine and then had the crabcakes which were nothing special despite being their specialty dish. On top of that, it was fairly expensive and I simply expected more.
