Best in Durham

Was able to sample the ribs, brisket, and pulled pork and everything was excellent. Plates come with huge portions that include hush puppies and two sides. Great, authentic BBQ with a slightly spicy sauce. The staff was courteous and helpful. The portions were generous and there was a great selection of sides. I had the ribs, potato salad, and collard greens. My husband and two adult children had pulled pork, slaw, macaroni and cheese, okra, and hush puppies. The only reason I didn't give a perfect... Anyone who keeps a tab on my reviews knows that I have a love of bbq, and that one of my favorite eateries before my trip to the Q Shack was Cherry Hill, NJ's own Whole Hog Cafe. Now, without a doubt, I say the Q Shack is one of the BEST bbq places I have ever eaten! Let me... More

Nearly every week, someone in the family says "Let's get some Q." And that means the Q Shack at Rockwood. Great pulled pork, ribs, smoked turkey, and brisket. Sides of mac & cheese, potato salad, coleslaw, snaps, okra, and my favorite creamed spinach. A Cobb salad that's loaded with turkey and brisket, eggs, avocado, and chipotle ranch dressing. Parking can... More

Stopped in The Q Shack in Durham last week. Brisket was smoked nicely and moist, and the mac and cheese was cheesy delicious! I live in Louisiana where hush puppies are served with fried fish entree's. The hush puppies at The Q were tasty and very good! Stafff was friendly and helpful. Restaurant and bathroom was clean! Will be back... More

On a visit to Duke University Athletics, friends took me to The Q Shack, and it was fantastic. I love visiting this area for the great BBQ, and this was the best I've had there. The chili-rubbed brisket and smoked pulled pork were outstanding. The hush puppies were among the best I've had anywhere, and the creamed spinach was outstanding.... More

We eat here almost weekly. The food is amazing, and this location of the Q shack puts others to shame (the others are no longer affiliated with this one). The ribs are really huge and meaty, and just the right texture. The brisket is never dry. Sides are excellent. The smoked and fried wings are the best wings I've had... More

Quantity of food was good but quality was not what I expected. Ribs were over cooked and I have had better brisket at a popular chain restaurant.

Best BBQ and Mac n Cheese ever! I didn't know what a hush puppie was... This place showed me! Love them. They are a little piece of fried goodness and I'm glad I don't live in the south because i would want them everyday!

I grew up in eastern North Carolina and, though I have had some Kansas City, St. Louis, Memphis, Texas, and western North Carolina styles that I have found quite enjoyable, for me, none measure up to the eastern NC style. The Q Shack measures up to no barbecue that is prepared carefully and thoughtfully. I'll quickly explain. A predominant feature... More
