Recommended by several Duke locals for a BBQ hot spot & it delivered. We arrived for an early plate at 11:15 am and within minutes the restaurant and parking lot were full. People were here for a reason - great food and good prices. BBQ pulled pork & chopped beef excellent, gorgeous cole slaw, okra cooked to perfection and the... More

We moved to Durham about six months ago, but visited the restaurant previously as well. Consistent quality. Barbecue pork and ribs are cooked just right. Brisket is great. Sides are really good - creamed spinach wonderful, great mac & cheese, fried okra is never cooked too long or too little. If you come around traditional meal times it is crowded,... More

During our recent trip to attend a ball game at Duke, we stopped in here for lunch and were not disappointed! The Q is delightful and the various sauce options are excellent! The place was packed at lunch but the line moved pretty quickly. The portions are large and the price is reasonable for what you get. We shared and... More

Questions about barbecue here in North Carolina tend to elicit energetically expressed answers, many of which contradict one another. Here in the Raleigh-Durham area, however, there is general consensus about the Q Shack being particularly good. Its unobtrusive location in a very ordinary-looking frame building in Durham, at the intersection of University Drive and the Durham-Chapel Hill Road, is suitable... More

My husband and I enjoyed lunch at The Q Shack in Durham last week while visiting relatives in the area. Our mouths started watering the minute we walked in. Absolutely incredible smells! The facilities are rustic, and the atmosphere is definitely casual, even shabby, but the food is outstanding. Big portions. Reasonable prices. My husband -- who is very health-conscious... More

One of the best things about living in the Research Triangle Park is having lunch at Q Shack. It is everything you'd want a barbecue joint to be: fantastic food, amazing smells, bluegrass music, outdoor seating, benches, paper towels on the table, chalk-board menu choice of sauces, big portions. First, a warning: This is NOT Eastern Carolina BBQ. This is... More

I think The Q Shack is a great value, great food, and quick service (something I put high value on). Their menu is pretty basic and their food is amazing. While they don't serve your typical "Carolina BBQ," rather a bit of a hybrid BBQ it is still great.

Fast and pleasant service. Tasty and nice variety of b-que meats and side dishes. Great place for a meal with friends.

Biggest gripe, tables with no back, if you have back trouble, keep on moving. I'm from Durham, love barbque, but we have better eastern style places here. Lots of folks like their salads, and brisket. Nice variety, but the sides have too many carb selections. I think folks from up north will actually like it better than the real stuff... More

This is some gooood barbecue! I ordered a sandwich which was good, not super special. But my boyfriend had the turkey which was amazing! The sides were all good and I'd definitely recommend giving this a try!
