Almost Paris

The covered outside dining added to our recent experience at Vin Rouge. A beautiful night complemented the excellent food, service and wine. We started with a bountiful meat and cheese plate matched to a fruitful Rhone wine recommended by the wait staff. With the size of the appetizer, I ordered... read more

We love this restaurant and planned to celebrate a birthday here. The champagne by the glass was awful. Too warm and very tart. The escargot was wonderful as was my husband's dinner. I had looked forward to the trout since my last visit. It was almost dry. Sadly, our waitress failed to keep an eye on us. Drinks were slow... More

We had reservations weeks in advance knowing that during graduation season all restaurants would be packed with people. We had a table for 6. They seated us right next to the serving kitchen. It was SO SO SO loud. You could barely hear the person next to you if you were trying to have polite conversation. We were there around... More

We were celebrating a graduation as was practically everyone in the restaurant! The menu was pre fix with a wide variety of choices for all 3 courses. Food was well prepared and presented. The lemon tart with pistachio and blue berries was a perfect end to the meal. As busy as they were, the service was excellent.

Been here three so far. The first time we enjoyed a generous cheese platter and a bottle of wine in the bar. It was delightful and I looked forward to returning for dinner. The next time we dined here we tried one of their "a la coravin" wines. Dinner and wines, both good, but nothing remarkable. Then there was this... More

Vin Rouge is consistently good with an excellent wine selection and super food. This time I tried the Oyster Gratinee and was not disappointed. In fact, anything they do with cheese is always a good bet, as are their chocolate desserts.

Difficult to rate. A quaint setting with an interior like an old house plus an outside area. We were seated inside by reservation and noted at the outset how noisy the room is to the extent that cross table conversation was difficult. As to the meal the table had two steaks and one of the night's halibut specials. The steaks... More

Being French,...this really didn't feel like home. Overall products are good, but most were served either too greasy or too salty. Avoid eating inside as the grill odor will stench your clothing... Dinner was not awful but a real lot too expensive for the average food.

I came here while planning my move to Durham from Europe and was pretty disappointed. Their French-ish dishes are too greasy, and the whole place smells like frying oil. We got one of the cheaper wines that the waiter hesitated on, and it was actually really good.. I just got the feeling they were trying to push something pricier.

Since Vin Rouge had come highly recommended both by friends and by most of the Trip Advisor reviewers, we were looking forward to our first dinner there. Disappointing is perhaps the kindest word I can use. I love good French sauces, but here the sauces are overpowering. "Now what am I eating below this? Fish, fowl?" I never order grilled... More
