Funky 9th street joint

Located on 9th St by the Duke East Campus, an artsy/funky/bohemian Durham neighborhood. Decent off street parking. The interior is spartan, exposed brick, formica tables, vinyl seat covers. We went early for breakfast Saturday around 8 am. The restaurant was empty enough at that hour that when... read more

Great little diner. Food was fresh with more than sufficient amounts of food. Staff very courteous. Waitress was very pleasant.

It is just an average diner.nothing special,ok food,a bit overpriced for a diner.the breakfast dishes are better than lunch and dinner.ok service.slow at times.been there twice, won't go back.there are better options in the area.

Fun diner that takes you back in time. Good food, good service, clean restrooms.Daily specials. Fun family place but I also bring my senior citizen mom here as it reminds her of diners from years ago.

No student ever got through Duke, nor any family visiting a student, without more than one trip to Elmo's. You may find yourself waiting, and it would be unusual if you didn't, but the wait is worth it. The menu is varied and has some Elmo's favorites as well as good southern fair. You absolutely cannot go wrong at Elmo's

I first ate at Elmo's about two years ago. Since then I've eaten there probably eight times. So I cannot say I am a regular customer. However, I can say that my experience at Elmo's has been on a down hill slide since my first experience. The last two times I've eaten there, I later wished I hadn't. The menu... More

This is a nice place with all of the pluses and minuses that are associated with the diner motif. It can be noisy when packed. The food portions are huge, and I was unable to finish my meal (a rare event for me). Most of my food was quite tasty and inexpensive. My wife really enjoyed the salmon cakes, but... More

Went for a business lunch and 3 of us picked from the lunch specials - southewest wrap, reuben sandwich, meatloaf sandwich and breakfast. The sandwiches come with fries. I was surprised they didn't offer sweet potato fries or onion rings. The wrap was pretty good, mainly because the chipotle sauce was so good. Also came with a tiny cup of... More

I really like Elmo's sunflower bread, whether its a sandwich or french toast, Yum! I was there the other day and noticed the "no guns allowed" decal on the main door was very much scratched up and it looked trashy. I don't know how a small sign like that gets so scratched up, it looks like people/customers are doing it...... More
