Different Fine dining experience!

Very nice experience! This place is actually an old bungalow renovated into a fine dining restaurant. Lovely, laid back décor and decent menu options, albeit pricey!

My wife and I chose to dine at Four Square to celebrate our 53rd wedding anniversary because of its excellent reputation and the memorable dinners we've enjoyed there in the past. The restaurant, which opened in 1999, is housed in the Bartlett Mangum House, named for its original owner, who built it in 1908 in a symmetrical, (four-square) style. Everything... More

I was in Durham on business and this retaurant was suggested by a local. I made a reservation, but the restaurant had many empty tables. The server greets us promptly, but left and did not return for a drink order for at least 10 minutes. The menu is interesting and there were a number of interesting choices. I ordered an tree... The service could not have been better, but on the recommendation of the waiter I got the beef - what a disappointment. He indicated it would be served medium rare -- it came medium. At a restaurant like this I would expect only a premium quality beef -- unfortunately nearly 1/3 of the steak was not edible because of fat... More

No complaints about the service and food but not memorable. Nothing to make a special evening. Seems like a place for the locals to dress up on a Friday evening.

Upon arrival we were surprised to find we had to take the entire $68 three-course menu per person on graduation weekend, but went with it anyway. The service was outstanding and the food was really very good and creative, although perhaps not quite as outstanding as the price would suggest. Interesting choice of tasty dishes, with some novel combinations of... More

I've been dining regularly here for several years. The meals are always wonderful, and the menus change every month. Each month there is some creative thread that makes for interesting and hard choices. There is always a great little treat to start the meal; recently it was a chocolate ravioli around a savory filling. I had an entree of fois... More

After reading some horrible reviews on Yelp, we had second thoughts about our reservation, yet this restaurant has been on our list for a few years now. Absolutely no complaints about the service or the atmosphere. We split the duck confit eggroll, and we were glad we did as it was so rich. There were no specials the night we... More

I consider myself a foodie and this is my very favorite restaurant in the Triangle, the food is extraordinary and I have never had a disappointing meal here. Unfortunately, the host is as sour, snooty and unfriendly as the food is good. Is it too much to ask to be friendly and polite and perhaps return a smile? That is... More

We chose this place based on reviews on TripAdvisor and were very pleased with the choice. They have an incredible wine list (we chose a Barbera) and had just changed their menu the night before our visit. They change the menu every two months, trying to use local products when possible. We split an appetizer of carpaccio that was wonderfully... More
