We have been going to Nanas when visiting Duke but thought we would give this a try. Food and service were impeccable. Highly recommended . Good menu choices and wonderful flavores. Highest recommendation.

We went for my husbands birthday and enjoyed everything about the meal. We ordered the romaine salad, a delcous bottle of wine and my husband had the tuna and I ordered the filet of beef. Both were excellent, perfectly cooked and seasoned with wonderful side dishes. Our only comment is the lighting was too bright and overhead lights should never... More

To start with, we are usually Four Square fans -- we've enjoyed many dinners and party-events there over the years. I think part of what made our most recent visit "uneven" was the service and the fact that by chance we got a table at which a waiter was being trained. While I sympathize with someone learning a new job,... More

We went for Thanksgiving dinner. The location was perfect. It felt as we were eating at someone's home. The restaurant is a restored historical home that is both comfortable and intimate. The food was gourmet, the presentation artistic, and the service five star. Prices reflect all the aforementioned.

... is that I only get to come here once a year when transitioning from up north to Florida and visiting family in Durham on the way south. Although some may consider it a bit pricey, I think the friendly and knowledgable wait staff, the delicious creations served and the warm "southern" atmosphere are well worth it. With five of... Very nice experience! This place is actually an old bungalow renovated into a fine dining restaurant. Lovely, laid back décor and decent menu options, albeit pricey!

My wife and I chose to dine at Four Square to celebrate our 53rd wedding anniversary because of its excellent reputation and the memorable dinners we've enjoyed there in the past. The restaurant, which opened in 1999, is housed in the Bartlett Mangum House, named for its original owner, who built it in 1908 in a symmetrical, (four-square) style. Everything... More

I was in Durham on business and this retaurant was suggested by a local. I made a reservation, but the restaurant had many empty tables. The server greets us promptly, but left and did not return for a drink order for at least 10 minutes. The menu is interesting and there were a number of interesting choices. I ordered an tree... The service could not have been better, but on the recommendation of the waiter I got the beef - what a disappointment. He indicated it would be served medium rare -- it came medium. At a restaurant like this I would expect only a premium quality beef -- unfortunately nearly 1/3 of the steak was not edible because of fat... More

No complaints about the service and food but not memorable. Nothing to make a special evening. Seems like a place for the locals to dress up on a Friday evening.
