My teenaged daughter and I arrived late on a Saturday night after a long day of travel. We were dressed very casually and were hesitant to dine out. Pizzeria Toro couldn't have been more welcoming to us on a crowded weekend evening. The salad was prepared with fresh local summer peas and romaine, and the crust on the pizza was... More

New pizzeria in downtown five-points that is very busy most nights. Get there early and enjoy their interesting selection of wood-fired pizzas. This is not your regular pepperoni and sausage pizza type place. Ingredients and combinations are unique and adventurous eaters will be rewarded. Seems very famly-friendly, and they offer Coke products from Mexico (probably with sugar instead of corn... More

I am of a very few that is not a "pizza lover". We happened in by chance when another restaurant across the way was closed and WOW am I glad we did! The wood fired pizza was the best I've had and the eclectic choices for white and red pizza made it more appealing. I had shaved brussell sprouts and... More

Great restaurant. Visiting Durham from Atlanta and stopped in for dinner. We sat at the community table and watched the chefs cook pizzas and prepare salads. Gourmet upscale pizza, great salads and really good desserts. This is not your average pizza place. It's an upscale restaurant with great food and a trendy atmosphere.

I am of the view that anything that draws people to downtown Durham can't be too bad. Many have tried and failed at that task. Pizzeria Toro seems to be drawing people at lunch and dinner. It has creative wood-fired pizzas listed by red and white. It has creative salads, beers, and, well, more pizza. It's a bit cramped and... More

Nice local place in downtown Durham. The restaurant is not too large with a nice casual decor. There are many communal tables for groups larger than two. The pizza is made in wood fired ovens. These are not your typical pizza combinations but unique combo's ,local ingredients in both red and white pizza. The final result is delicious. Also serve... More

Wood fired pizza was terrific with unique choices. Service was ok but the place was very busy as it is popular. Beer was cold and lots of local choices on tap. Would go back anytime.

This new pizza place in five points in Durham is really amazing. We've had several great experiences here and have never been disappointed. They don't take reservations, so get there early or be prepared to wait (they have a nice bar area). The potato pizza and kale salad shouldn't be missed.

Very busy. Be prepared to wait a little on weekends; no reservations. We sat close to the oven, enjoyed the warmth and loved the show. Be brave, the pizzas are not your ordinary mix of ingredients. We ate things we'd never even heard of before (like fiddleheads and ramps.) Yum! What fun!!

This place is amazing! I went here today with my husband for a Saturday afternoon lunch date. We ordered the roasted beets antipasti that came with caramelized anchovy and pistachios. I detest anchovies so when he suggested it I was skeptical about it. After eating the dish, I became a believer. Fantastic! Then we ordered the fried eggplant, garlic, and... More
