Incredible - magic is happening there!

We bought a whole pie for our daughter's birthday -- Lemon Chess. It was perfect, perfect. Put some whipped cream on it at home. Three adults and two adolescent grandsons polished it off, ever so slowly so as not to miss a morsel of flavor. Before heading home, however, we had espresso, some chocolate donut muffins, and a day old... More

Despite Scratch's consistently high rating, I had to weigh in after eating lunch here today. It's delightfully calm and unpretentious. The location is somewhat hidden away but worth parking and walking to this little urban oasis. The lunch menu is limited, but very fresh and international. The 3-pieces of bread served with my carrot bisque were the best I have... More

Stumbled upon this cute and homey establishment. We only had a cinnamon roll and donut/muffin, both of which were delicious. Looked like a great little menu. Will definitely stop in the next time we are staying in the city. Very small but more seating outside if the weather is nice.

The chocalate and apple tarts were awesome with a flaky tasty crust and a wonderful rich filling. The carnitas benedict was excellent with pork that was satsfying and the poached eggs were perfect. Great restaurant!

Went with family that indulged me because I am a foodie and they just come for the ride. Went on Saturday afternoon and only baked goods and brunch menu was available. We had hoped for lunch but like I said, my family was just in it for the ride. Menu with duck eggs does not appeal to a mother that... More

Scratch is one of our regular weekend breakfast stops for a very good reason: they have hearty, tasty, interesting breakfast selections. We value fresh, local ingredients, which they use. We also like the pride they take in their food. We've been to Scratch at least 10 times, and they are very consistent in their quality. Fair prices for what you... More

I like good food but I also like good value. Scratch delivers on both counts in my book. It's not cheap eats in Durham but it is really good and the cafe offers fare you won't find elsewhere. My duck egg sandwich was delectable and the (Counter Culture) coffee was excellent as well. Next time I'll try something even more... More

Close your eyes, and you are in grandma's kitchen. This place turns out buscuits, pies, pastries, and brunch specials. The "Grit Bowl" has kimcee, so not so old South as you would think. The buscuits are quite good, and the pie memorable. We also had an open face brisket that was a home run. Solid bet for breakfast or brunch.

Did not like the attitude of the barista who tried to teach me how to order my coffee... asked for a double tall espresso, got a short and strong one instead...asked for it to be remade...was rudely advised that I "should have asked for an Americana"....I have been ordering coffee for over 20 years....nobody else has ever been challenged by...
