After reviewing my fellow travelers comments, my hubby and I decided to begin our day with a light breakfast here. First, let me start out saying that their location is on a pedestrian only street not open to vehicle track, thank goodness for OnStar or we might not have found this place. NOTE: I believed parking on Parrish just before... More

I had heard amazing things about Scratch (in addition to being a James Beard nominee) so I couldn't not go for breakfast. By 9am, when the doors were opened, there was a line waiting to get in. I ordered a pour over and avocado toast and my husband ordered the pimiento cheese city ham biscuit. All was delicious.

Went here with my daughter and had a great brunch. There was a line out the door which usually states your at a good place and we were. Had wonderful brunch items and outside seating.

We just missed the breakfast cutoff, so we had to make do with a slice of heaven I mean blueberry peach cobbler and a deep fried buttermilk muffin (aka donut muffin), washed down with something to completely surprise the tastebuds, a rosemary iced coffee. We didn’t have to fight the office lunch crowd for a table, but it started to... More

Super crowded, we considered going some place else bc the menu was a bit confusing to us and didn't seem very filling and there were no tables available. We were about to hit the road and a friend recommended this place on our way out of town. We got the bacon jam biscuit and two sausage, egg and cheddar biscuits.... More

Wonderful spot in downtown Durham. We had Biscuits Benedict, Grits bowl with Kimchi, and Duck Egg biscuit with bacon. We also had desserts and pastries, both sweet and savory. ALL were scrumptious. Plus delicious coffee, courteous and attentive staff, and great decor inside with lovely outside tables, too.

What can I say...soooo good. First the shop is a little difficult to find, but don't give up; it's worth the effort...so worth it! I had wonderful toasted homemade bread with ricotta, roasted tomatoes, over easy egg; all with a light drizzle of slightly sweet reduced wine vinegar. It was absolutely fabulous. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his sausage and egg... More

Thanks fellow contributors for directing us to scratch. After dropping our daughter off at RDU, we wanted to go somewhere for breakfast. While Scratch is not a full service breakfast place, we did enjoy their great homemade sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit along with their muffin donuts which were excellent. They've got a brunch on weekends which looks very good.... More

My mom found an article claiming that this bakery was one of 6 great places for pie in the US. She talked about it for 6 months before our trip to Durham. This place makes wonderful pie! If you enjoy homemade pie with real stuff like butter come early. You will not be disappointed!

In order to get a seat, we arrived shortly after the doors opened on a Saturday morning and were not disappointed. Excellent fresh baked goods and egg dishes-- the doughnut muffins are great! Coffee was good and prices were reasonable. It was a good way to start a busy day.
