I will be the first to say that I loved thd Penguin when I first moved to Charlotte. But in the last year or so, it has totally changed. They were famous for the fried pickles and a favorite sweet potato fries. Then they took off the fries and were even out of the pickles. Then to top if off,... More

I love the Penguin. It is so retro and cute and their frickles are the best as well as the blackened bird Blu Cheese burger and the servers are always so engaging and personable that I end up rather over tipping them because they feel like friends.

My husband loves hamburgers and since he moved to Charlotte I had been promising to take him to one of Charlotte's most famous burger joints. We got there around 1 pm on a Saturday and there were only a few other diners there. We ordered the fried pickles to start, which were slow to come out but tasty. The service... More

After checking out the menu for this place online, I was really disappointed to find a completely different menu when going to eat here. Service was EXTREMELY slow. Food was decent, but nothing incredible. My group ordered cheeseburgers, fried pickles, onion rings, and fresh cut fries. No children's menu was available. The cheeseburgers were average. The fries and onion rings... More

Burgers were really quite tasty. Onion rings were worth the calories. Service was slow. All in all though a fun experience at a Triple D location and worth a stop when in Charlotte!

the pengiun has been a staple in plaza midwood for many years. changes in top level folks have caused issues in the quality of food in my opinion. It is still a good place to get a good burger and a beer

Our son did a lot of research for different types of Restaurants and we decided to try this location. The fried pickles are a real treat. Sandwiches with pimento cheese was very good as well as the hot dogs tried by others in our party. This place is a little different but very interesting for those customers young and old.... More

We stopped in on a whim on a Thursday afternoon and I am so glad that we did! We weren't very hungry so we just split some munchies...I highly recommend the fried pickles with pimento cheese and bacon. The decor is fun and feels a bit like time travel (but there's also a big TV that had the basketball game... More

I am rating The Penguin a very generous Average. We went on a Friday night recently and the wait was very long. The waitress was seemingly unfamiliar with the Kid's Menu as she didn't know exactly what the Kid's offerings were. It took about 45 minutes to get our food after being seated. It was not clear on the menu... More

food was greasy, fries were limp. I ordered a tap beer, and it was skunky. Maybe this was the place years ago, but it ain't got it no more.
