Fantastic Southern Cooking, Just Like Sunday at Grandma's

I had fried green tomatoes for an appetizer then fried chicken, collard frees, mac and cheese, yams and cornbread for the main course. I wanted desert but there was no way possible to fit desert in but I would recommend trying to save room.

Overall, the food was pretty good. You walk in and are immediately hit by the smell of cooking collard greens. I would suggest NOT ordering anything with alcohol in it. I realize that this place doesn't have a bar scene, but two people in my party ordered beers and they came out pretty warm (like they had been sitting out... More

Our group especially went to this place after seeing it on a previous trip. It looked like a fun, little soul food hang out, and it was. We went on a Monday night and it was packed. We had to wait at least an hour for our food, and because she was new, the server wasn't always on top, but... More

This little "soulful" charmer was recommended to me by the hotel staff as a great breakfast place and they were right. It is the perfect place to get country ham, eggs, grits, biscuits OR outstanding omelettes, pancakes, etc...So, good, I ate there both mornings for breakfast I was in Charlotte. The restaurant looks like it has some outstanding soul food... More

Excellent Southern comfort food. Six of us all had different entrees (I had the red beans and rice) and everyone raved. They bring out individual cornbread loaves before the meal which almost melt in your mouth. For dessert there is a large assortment of fabulous cakes. Don't miss this place.

I have been going to Mert's since I first moved to Charlotte and it never disappoints. If you are on a diet do not go here, however, if you want some good home cooking, this is the place for you. My favorite breakfast is their omelettes and they have a great Creole as well for lunch. The staff here is... More

Omg this place is awesome!! They have the best corn bread loaf in the world. I can eat this with a salad as a meal or for dessert. The food is wonderful and the homemade cakes are great too.

Very good southern food at a reasonable price. Every meal comes with fresh out of the oven cornbread with plenty of butter to melt over it. The fried chicken, mac&cheese, and salmon patties are some of my favorites. The staff is friendly and efficient. If you are a health nut or have cholesterol problems this isn't the place for you.

I've bern here a couple of times. Small restaurant that uses every inch of space wisely. I'm a creature of habit so I always order the same thing; fried chicken wings, Mac n cheese, & yams. I'm always pleased but I'd like to say that sometimes the chicken isnt as cooked(crunchy) as I like. The last time I went I... More

I've eaten here quite a few times over the years. The food is just plain good. My favorite is the three-veggie plate with greens, sauted squash and cheese grits. Their cornbread is the best I've ever eaten and the sweet tea is classically southern. We have taken guests there as well and it's always been a hit.
