Good Food, Weak Service

Went to Bonterra with 3 other couples. We had been there before but not usually a place we go because of the distance to get there, but others had wanted to go there. They have a great menu with a wide variety. This night we definitely had the "B" team on the wait staff...there wasn't much that... read more

Note that this review is a bit dated. This is one of Charlotte's old line fine dining restaurants, and we've eaten here many times over the past 20 years or so. It's in an old church, with lovely decor. With over 200 wines by the glass, it's a great place to sample diverse wines. But this time we were a... More

My wife and I went to Bonterra for our anniversary. The place was quiet and cozy. We sat at the bar for wine and an yummy appetizer which was recommended. The wine list is large and moderately priced. I had a very nice pinot noir and my wife had a very nice Albarinio. The dinner was excellent with very attentive... More

Fabulous dinner tonight - we had the pork bellies, duck and short ribs. Everything was wonderful. Consistently excellent food and an imaginative, local menu. Waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and wine selections.

Everything was phenomenal as always, this was a fund raiser and as usual Bonterra did an incredible job. Menu was perfect and the quality was top notch... Chef Blake put together a four course meal to die for.. Octopus, Coq Au Vin, Braised Short Ribs and ending with a cheese, chocolate and fresh berry plate for the table.

It's a lovely place with beautiful original art adorning the walls and great ambience. The menu is inventive and the food nicely prepared. We sampled the charcuterie for 2 and the grilled octopus appetizer, which was perfectly cooked. There should have been a few more pieces of octopus but still delicious. I enjoyed the duck and others enjoyed the short... More

Built within an old church, BRWR serves a very high-end style of food seldom seen in Charlotte--inventive, flavorful, beautifully presented, eclectic, professionally served menu items accompanied by choices from an expansive wine menu. All in all, extremely well done! For those used to larger city prices, or those with expense accounts, the cost will not surprise. For most of the... More

We've had a number of very nice meals at Bonterra. It's a bit on the pricey side for us so we tend to use it for special occasions, or to share a uniquely good experience with foods. Historically the service has been top notch, complimenting the meal to make the the outing a complete success. Our last visit, two weeks... More

Wine list is off the charts, incredible. They have so many wines by the glass. If you love wine this place will not disappoint. The I ambience is great. The history alone is so intriguing. We loved our food and our server was very knowledgeable. There's a lot of creativity in each dish. We would highly recommend.

We ventured here during Restaurant Week as that is usually a good way to try new places. We were a bit surprised that ONLY the Restaurant Week menu was available. Typically you are able to order something off the regular menu if the pre fix selection does not excite one of us - but not here. The place was half... More
