I live in Eastern NC and have had vinegar based barbeque hundreds of times at many places. This compared to them was not even average. There was nothing special at all. The barbecue was dry, it had flavor that didnt even compare to Smithfields ( a chain). The baked beans although I was told were jazzed up, I dont think... More

Basic, simple restaurant with great barbecue. I had a large BBQ plate and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's shredded pork with a basic vinegar sauce - extra sauce is available on the table. You get a basket of hush puppies when you order. They have a little bit of onion flavor that makes them more interesting than a basic hush puppy... More

If you're a fan of NC style BBQ, this Charlotte institution cannot be missed! It's been there since 1963! The pork BBQ plate was delicious. I live the home style atmosphere, checked table clothes. The waitstaff was incredibly nice, but seemed a little understaffed at lunch time. The BBQ chicken was nice (my friend had that plate).

Eastern NC barbecue is my favorite, and Spoon's hits the spot. The barbecue and slaw are just-right tangy, and the hush puppies are delicious. I'm not a fan of their Brunswick Stew, though, so I order slaw as my first and second sides. The interior hasn't changed much since opening in the 60s, but it remains a comfortable dining spot... Very friendly staff and quick service. The coleslaw and potato salad are very mustardy. The bbq pork is not very good. We didn't enjoy the hush puppies very much either. The sweet tea is good though.

Eastern NC barbeque and my childhood go hand and hand. It was nice to find a restaurant in Charlotte that served the Eastern type pork BBQ. It is shredded, not chopped or pulled..for those that want clarification. It was a little drier than I usually enjoy it, but that means it was leaner also. the sauce (you added yourself) is... More

I haven't been to Bill Spoons since he died, so it had been a while. I ordered the small BBQ plate with slaw and brunswick stew. The portions were fine but the star was dry and had almost no flavor. The meat was no more than a pile of fibers waiting to be flavored with salt and sauce. The hush... More

I've lived around the corner from this joint for 30 years and haven't been back since the early eighties. I now remember why, this place serves average barbeque for outrageous prices. Eleven dollars is too much for a mere portion of not very good pork served with fries and slaw. The people that rave of the food here apparently have... More

excellent BBQ (Pulled Pork for me) and sauces were just fine... not terrific... but I like them spicy and vinegary....( 521 BBQ in Indian Land has the best...)... sides were excellent and service friendly and prompt... I'll go back again...
