Recommended by a local, we had a no-frills barbecue lunch at Bill Spoon's. As is traditional in the Carolinas, the chopped pork needed the vinegar-based sauce, but it was mighty tasty when properly done. The hushpuppies were nice too. Went to Bill Spoons, it was terrible, meat looked like it had been through a food processor, coleslaw was a yellow purée, yellow!! No kidding, bright yellow. Staff are super nice. I came home and read the reviews and have discovered there is a HUGE market for dry, mushed up, processed bbq and yellow coleslaw. Apparently it's known as Eastern... More

Had a groupon for Spoons BBQ...glad I did because I would not have wanted to pay full price for the meal we just had. Very finely chopped diced BBQ, eastern style. Felt a bit like I was eating ground up pork... not really BBQ. Hushpuppies were dry, coleslaw not worth eating and while the potato salad was ok, not worth... More

We have eaten BBQ all over this country including probably 20 different spots here in NC, and Bill Spoons is our new found favorite. The place serves very traditional, eastern NC BBQ. As one reviewer pointed out, it is an "old time BBQ place and not some trendy spot" and they couldn't be more right. It does feel dated inside,... More

I eat here monthly with a group of buddies. This is an old time barbecue place, not some trendy spot. The bbq is great and they have the traditional sides - hush puppies, cole slaw, Brunswick stew, collards, mac n cheese and others. Today I had the small chopped plate with stew- excellent as always. They have both kinds of... More

the vinegar based barbecue and slaw has a eastern nc flavor. there is a distinct restaurant vinegar recipe. you can purchase the sauce by the bottle. it is very popular. the potatoes and macaroni and cheese are special family recipes. clean restaurant with no frills.

Superior pork, good slaw, very tasty sides, fine service. Above-average 'cue in an area known for its superior bbq!

Took my car in to have the tires looked at and they suggested this place for lunch as I had to wait. I am glad they did. The BBQ is vinegar based which is a little different than what I am use to. I ordered the chicken and it was very tasty. To be honest I had to ask for... More

I'm no BBQ snob, I don't smoke my own meat....etc. I'm just am average joe that likes all kinds of BBQ. That being said, If I didn't know better, I'd swear some of these reviews aren't real. Bills is easy to find and has this legendary status, but I don't get it. The meat has zero flavor whatsoever. I tried... More

I was in Charlotte visiting a friend over the weekend and they kept saying how good Bill Spoon's was, how popular it is, etc, so we decided to give it a try for lunch at noon on Thursday. I ordered the sandwich plate which included a chopped pork sandwich, coleslaw (on the sandwich), hushpuppies, baked beans, and then a slice... More
