I love this place and when I'm in town try to dine here. The fried chicken is great and the staff is wonderful. Try the green fried tomatoes. Sit on the porch and watch the college kids on Rosemary Street.

With all the hype, I was looking forward to a real Southern food experience. Mama Dip's fell way short of that. We were greeted by a very aloof hostess, and given tattered, dirty plastic menus. I ordered the fried chicken and ribs combination with macaroni and cheese and turnip greens and corn bread. The fried chicken was dry inside, and... More

The food is genuine soul food, very well prepared. The fried chicken is very good. Green beans prepared with meat and slow-cooked. Probably somewhat more yped than other similar places, and prices reflect that.

I've been eating here since 1986, when I first moved to Chapel Hill, and then off and on when I visit the area. I love the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and fried pork chops. The yellow cake with chocolate frosting is a classic, as is the pound cake. The pecan pie is another "don't miss". I highly recommend... More

Had wanted to eat here for years. Expectations were high. Pete, our server, was delightful. Food was solidly delicious. Fried chicken just like grandma made. Fried okra, green tomatoes, biscuits, mashed potatoes... All fabulous. Dessert choices all looked amazing. We loved the chocolate pecan pie. Go! Well worth it and no surprise Mama Dip's is an institution.

Love it! The best place to each in chapel hill. I go just yo get some southern home cooked meals. I would go everyday if I lived close enough. We live in Raleigh, nc. You have got to make over here. You won't be disappointed!

This is an iconic Chapel Hill restaurant. I'm not a big fan of fried chicken, but this fried chicken would make anyone change their mind. It's simply delicious! It's a very homey atmosphere and laid back service.

Only in the south do you eat at a place called 'Mama Dips'. I have no idea what it means but the food is good old authentic southern food. What makes this place so special? Probably everything on the menu, not least of all their southern fried chicken. It doesn't get better than a Blue Moon Beer, Fried Green Tomatoes,... More

So many delectable dishes & so little time. Much of the food is fried as expected & the chicken/fish entrees are quite tasty. A must visit restaurant whenever we are in town.
