Cool place in Chapel Hill

This is an eclectic place to eat while in the Raleigh-Durham area. You can get a fine sampling of Southern food while having great conversations with friends in this cool local hang-out. Crook's Corner is the home of the first Shrimp & Grits and if you have not eaten it here, you should order this first. Other favorites, when available, include Soft Shell Crab, Honeysuckle Sorbet (a short-term seasonal joy), a REAL Caesar Salad (I get one with fried oysters as my entrée), and their fried oysters. For drinks try the Jalapeno... More

I love this Chapel Hill classic. I like the collards and the shrimp and grits but everything is delicious. It is way past time for me to go back.

Always the best breakfast in town. Indulge in their french fries - fresh cut and not greasy - the best in town. Great people watching. Enjoy a beverage on the patio and plan your next garden planting. Make reservations so you do not have to fight the crowds. Their Honeysuckle sorbet IS the best thing I have ever had in... More

Really great food with excellent service in a lovely setting. Try their ice tea with their special simple syrup and the shrimp and grits are delicious. Lots of great desserts too.

Crook's Corner is a flower lover's delight, and a star for any honed palate. Even though I usually get the Shrimp and Grits, I decided to try the hoppin' egg...delicious! The hoppin' john with cheddar, tomatoes, and scallions hit the spot, as well as the crispy eggs sunny side up!!! Dont miss this on a visit.

Crook's is famous for Shrimp and Grits, and for good reason. There are lots of recipes for this dish but Crook's is the original, and it is really good. Perfect blend of favors - bacon, onion, mushrooms. Shrimp cooked just right, over creamy grits. Jalapeño hush puppies are a tasty starter, enough for the table to share. Another offering here... My shrimp and grits were OK, but not the best I've ever had. In fact the shrimp tasted a bit too "old". The grits were good. The menu was very limited - but had many seafood choices. I personally would not go back.

My daughter, who recently moved to Chapel Hill, took me here the first time I visited her in CH. Shrimp and grits is their signature dish, we were told, and a real novelty dish for us northerners. It was good, all right, as were all the trimmings and desserts too. Service was satisfactory. Price was fair. As a visitor to... More

We had dinner here recently mid-week. We split the jalapeño hush puppies, and most of us ordered the shrimp and cheese grits, which were delicious. Dessert (including the chocolate cake) was heavenly. An alum told us that this is where parents would take their college kids for a nice meal (as opposed to a place college students could regularly afford... More
