Very Good Overall

Four of us ate here for a pleasant dinner at 7pm. We were seated in the side or patio room where you had to use your imagination to read the menu. It was that dark to me. The menu was not extensive, but what they had was pretty good, service was excellent and prices were about $25/entree. They have... read more

In the last 3 months I've been to Crook's Corner 5 times. The outcome -- I love this restaurant more every time I go. The staff are always warm and quietly delightful. The food is just so good. Honest, in season, soulful and deeply satisfying. Go, enjoy and go again.

Came here for brunch with family while visiting Chapel Hill. They did accommodate our large group and we did not have to wait. The bacon and the biscuits were both amazing! I had the ham hash which was just alright. No one in our party was super impressed by this place but it wasn't horrible.

Our now-grown children grew up loving Crook's and requested we all visit there during their Thanksgiving visit. Much about Crook's is comfortingly familiar -- the tiles, the tables, the crowd, the jungle of jardinieres with fresh herbs and succulents outside, the artwork, and pleasant service. Crook's signature Shrimp and Grits was on everyone's mind, of course, and the newcomer-partners were... More

A wonderful quirky exterior rich with plants and hubcaps opens on spacious informal bar and dining rooms. The food is very solid in a nouveau southern style but could use a pinch of sophistication.

We got there before our reservation and had gin and tonics at the bar. They make their own tonic that was quite delicious. For dinner we sat on the lovely patio with lots of plants and a little pool. We were seated directly under the heaters, which were intense, but we were able to move our table back a bit... More

We lived in Chapel Hill some time ago, and Crook's was previously one of our favorite spots. We were recently in the area for a visit, and dined here with old friends. We were disappointed. Staff were friendly, but the food was not great. Seafood was overcooked, collards were like leather, grits were dry and tough. Hoppin' John was OK,... More

When Crooks corner opened more than three decades ago, their menu of re-interpreted Southern cuisine made with locally sourced ingredient was an innovative, cutting edge concept. I fondly remember several delicious meals I had there in the early 90's, but I wish I could forget the food we were served at a recent visit. In short, almost everything was a... More

Crook's Corner was one of our favorites years ago when we lived in Chapel Hill. We were recently back for a visit and it was slightly disappointing. The meal started off well with a very tasty and fresh succotash appetizer, but the entrees were poorly executed. Their shrimp and grits was so loaded with bacon and garnish that the shrimp... More
