I generally get a bbq sandwich with slaw to go, and one of these is really more than I can eat. The pork is excellent, the slaw tasty, and the hushpuppies are pretty darn good while they are still hot. On the rare occasion that I've ordered fries, I've been disappointed because I like my fries on the crispy, rather... More

Barbecue was really flavorful, great coleslaw and other sides. Server was friendly and relaxed; made us fee welcome. I ordered the half chicken -- but it was more like 1/4 chicken. Decor had the old time charm, but it could use some updating -- new and clean tablecloths would be a start. Definitely good, but could be so much better,... More

If ya like NC style BBQ then a sammich from Allen and son in Chapel Hill will send you home happy. It's not fancy it's just tasty. That's enough for me to come back when I'm in town.

We were attending a wedding in Chapel Hill and had some time prior to the evening event. As former Houstonians we love to try BBQ from different regions whenever we can. Allen & Son was recommended by a local and we decided to give it a try for lunch. All I can say is that I wish I had read... More

I am completing a 24 hour day trip to Chapel Hill, and I am writing this review before I even leave. That should tell you something! So, I went to an information session at UNC, and the host said, "Oh, by the way, if anyone is into BBQ…let me know." So after the session when everyone was asking pointed questions... More

We had family visiting this weekend and decided to pick up some pulled pork barbecue and sauce. I've been to Allen and Son a number of times over the years but I have never taken time to review their barbecue. In this case, I just picked up the pulled pork and sauce as a take-out order. I usually opt for... More

Any time I am in North Carolina, I make an extreme effort to get to Allen and Son BBQ - even when I have to drive an hour (or more) to do so. The restaurant itself isn't anything to brag about...plastic table clothes on the table (not always as clean as one might like), silverware wrapped in somewhat flimsy paper... More

I was in North Carolina to visit a friend. I really wanted some great Carolina BBQ and this place was recommended to her by a friend. It looks just like a BBQ joint should look. I ordered the BBQ plate. Two things you should know about me: I'm from Alabama (born, raised, still here) and I love vinegar. I understand... More

First I want to say this place is good. The food was good and the staff was polite. Now I went when it was dark so it seemed it wit was in the middle of now where and the building was a bit run down and in dire need of upgrading but please don't let that sway you from going.... More
