A Chapel Hill Survivor

Growing up in Chapel Hill, Sutton's was one of the most popular "counter and booth" spots in the town. As one of the very few 40's-50's stores remaining, it is definitely a wonderful place to recapture that era. Nostalgia aside, they still make a great grilled cheese and shake.

need a milkshake and a burger? or a BLT, grilled cheese, fountain coke? Suttons Drugstore on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill is the place. You can sit in a booth or on a stool at the counter and look at lots of photos of UNC sports icons while sipping your drink and munching on fries. If you are a die-hard... More

Yes, the best drugstore lunch counter meal plus an authentic 1950s ambience. The drug store business recently closed but Sutton's restaurant remains open. Sit in the banquettes or counter where you will meet an interesting cross-section of the denizens of Chapel Hill.

Visiting Sutton's Drug Store is a family tradition when visiting Chapel Hill. Lovely staff, good food, it is a traditional store that I enjoy very much indeed. Queues at lunchtime are the norm and my personal preference is for breakfast ... but really it is good food anytime.

Went here with my daughter during a college visit at UNC. It was like walking back in time. The food was nothing special but it was worth it to just visit and see it. Beware that it is a popular spot with the college kids so noontime you will encounter lines out the door.

You need to get a biscuit from Sutton's to experience the best breakfast in Chapel Hill. I highly recommend a country ham biscuit.

Traditional, old school American diner with a drug store and everything. Great combinations of food, friendly service. If you come at peak times you may have to wait a few minutes for a table, but the service is very fast so you're never waiting long. Eating at the counter is a must if you go to UNC Chapel Hill (its... More

Sutton's Drug Store has great food. You can get breakfast or lunch there. The chocolate milk shake is wonderful. The food is inexpensive - the burgers are fresh and the fries are hot!

We visited Chapel Hill last month for a Carolina basketball game. This has been a family tradition for our family for years. In the past we had always eaten breakfast at our hotel. I read about Sutton's in a local magazine, so we decided to give it a try. Parking along Franklin Street can be hard to find, so you... More
