Our second time, was better than the first.

I reviewed Cholanad after my first visit in September 2014. That time three guests each ordered different meals. This time, was special, in part, because the four of us ordered the same thing.I do not know whether this was exceptional Indian food Or not. However, there were quite a few diners who... read more

We love Indian food and have been trying difference places in the Triangle like Sitar in Durham and Vimala's Curryblossom Cafe in Chapel Hill. These places have been fine, but nothing exceptional. We finally tried Cholanad and now exceptional has been had. It is a nicely appointed place and the service we received from a waiter named Brian was terrific.... More

Great Indian food, and a lot more spacious than it looks from the street. On our table, one of us had the Chicken Tikka Masala (really good), a spinach/lamb dish (she loved it), and a sampler of 9 traditional Indian dishes (he didn't offer to share so I think that's a good sign).

I was really looking forward to my dinner there tonight with a friend. The restaurant was under staffed, the wait staff were overworked. The last time I went there, they served us pappadum. This time they served nothing. I had the lamb chops with tomato rice. The rice tasted like it had been cooked in tomato juice..lamb chops were tender... More

I just visited Cholanad for the first time. I dine in a lot of Indian restaurants and I have to say that I found this one intriguing and enjoyable. The food was good and the menu contained many dishes that one does not see on the average Indian restaurant menus. I decided to have the non-vegetarian Thali as it is... More

I ate dinner at the bar. The bartender recommended the Mutton Biryani and it was delicious. Also interesting cocktails. This was one of the best Indian meals I have ever had. I will definitely go back.

The Big Bad Tiger Dosa was the main attraction of the evening. Have a good spread in their menu. Amazing service.

Not as many tourists vist southern India, home of the Cholanad Cuisinart, but the food is as special as that in the north. Just one gigantic dosa is enough for a meal or a good choice for a meal or to share. There is a variety of dishes that makes the choice easy for a single or for a big... More

Went to Chapel Hill to meet some friends.. and they took us to this AMAZING Indian restaurant. Coming from New York, I wasn't really sure how good this Indian restaurant would be, but Boy! was I in for a treat! Everything on their menu was different from the run of the mill Indian food, and everything was delicious!! Loved all... More
