Some of the best Indian food I've ever had out of India

I had dinner at Vimala's several times during a short summer stay in Chapel Hill. The food was delicious, from the generous thalis to the delicious uttapams. The desserts are worth trying as well. Overall, this is some of the best Indian food I've ever had out of India. The courtyard is absolutely... read more

My friends and I tried chicken curry plate, saag paneer plate, the mysore masala dosa and idli puffs. Both of my companions have traveled to southern India and were impressed by the meal. The prices were definitely fair. You also can't beat the outdoor patio; perfect on a sunny Spring afternoon in beautiful Chapel Hill.

Good food made simply. Very fresh, very tasty, good proportions. I am from India and this meal definitely has been the closest-to-home Indian food I have tasted anywhere outside India. The general perception of Indian food is it is "spicy" - implying it is "hot". Indian food can be most delicate and subtle and cover a wide range of tastes.... More

The food was overall pretty good; the naan was very good. It's an excellent atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. The service was a little slow, but the staff was polite and nice. I would return.

Excellent variety of authentic Indian food, with meat, vegan and vegetarian options. Good variety of great draught and bottled beers, wines and friendly staff. Great specials, lots of seasonal things to try. Also do catering for private functions - we've had them for a party. A little disorganized, but in an endearing way! I also love Vimala's supportive philosphy towards... More

I have been to Vimala's on several occasions. The food is always good, fresh, and interesting. Check the board for daily specials. No matter what you order, it will be better than you expected. Portions are substantial. I am somewhat addicted to the mango lassi, so be careful.

if you're looking for something different to take your friend or even a date, it's the place to go! I got the tandoori chicken and its a huge portion for an appropriate price. I also got the mango lassi and it's really yummy! The seating is limited since they're busy but it's totally worth it! We got lucky and they... More

I'm a regular diner. Curries are made from scratch, always different goodness. Variety of savory flatbreads, always delicious. Very tasty hot sauces. Indian dishes seem to be authentic cuisine, which may be a little challenging for some. Bone-in dishes are designed to be eaten with fingers, although most diners here use silverware, which takes extra care. Goat is sometimes available... More

We eat out at Curryblossom several times a year when we visit Chapel Hill. It's clear that chef owner Vimala is beloved by her customers and staff and her food reflects that TLC. If you aren't familiar with Indian food the staff will assist you. Wholesome flavorful food in a very collegial setting on Franklin St. Young musicians perform some... More

I had the fish Curry here. The entire plate had a lot of rice. The fish was with Mackerel and had a few bones. It wasn't as good as I had expected. But I noticed a lot of other interesting plates like Dolsa, which was a giant crepe with chicken inside. I wish I had tried that instead. I had... More
