The best true vegetarian food I have had in a restaurant. Excellent options. Thank you for being there!

Ate lunch at Vimala's with my UNC daughter. I had incredible eggplant curry and she had a dosa. Both were outstanding. Her dosa was filled with potato and other veggies, came with some delicious soup and extra sauces. My eggplant curry was served with rice and salad. Lavender lemonade was our drink choice: beautiful and scrumptious. Service was great as... More

We read and heard such raves about Vimala's Cafe (even from an Indian friend of ours) but we found the restaurant grungy and the food tasteless with no flavorful or pungent Indian spices. We ordered Chicken Curry and a Samosa. We wanted to enjoy a great Indian mixed vegetable dish like Navratan Korma but it wasn't available and we only... More

Ate here twice in a week. Pork vindaloo was triumphant, also goat curry and tandoori chicken delicious. The ethos of the place takes a little getting used to, ordering at the counter and then finding a table etc. But it is all worth it, a real treat.

Tried to eat lunch here recently - what a disappointing experience. The place is beyond funky, you order lunch in the small, worn bar area, and the lunch menu choices are few if you are a meat eater. And what is there is incredibly overpriced. We initially ordered Chicken Curry and Pork Vindaloo, with an order of Naan, an order... More

Very good vegetarian southern Indiian menu, and the restaurant is run with a great deal of idealism. Helpings are decent, services is reliable and fast, and they even have a good wine selection.

I have truly loved frequenting to this place but my last visit was so disappointing. The food was not good at all. I love everything about this place and hate to give it a low rating. We had the vegetarian platter which consisted of roti (parts of it were not cooked evenly), dal (no taste to it), beet koftas (weird... More

I'm not a connoisseur of Indian food so I can't vouch for the authenticity or taste, but I can say this place is aptly named. Vimala is the owner who transformed her home cooking and catering business into a restaurant. I don't know what "curryblossom" is but it sounds exotic. Finally, cafe is a casual eatery. Put them all together... More

Stopped by Chapel Hill to dine at Vimala's after seeing it featured on NC Weekend on PBS. The restaurant is located in a newer area down Franklin Street heading toward Carboro. We had to pay $3 to park in an adjacent lot because all on-street parking was taken. We ate dinner on a Saturday night at 6 p.m. on graduation... More

Need to clean bathrooms more often! Kind servers, food is most often well prepared. Have sometimes received over cooked chicken which was blackened and dry. Bland rice. Lassi is inspired as well as their signature lemonade with lavender. Good food, a little more attention by the cleaning crew would make us feel a lot more confident!
