My favorite French place in the Triangle

Kitchen is located in an unassuming strip mall in north Chapel Hill. Another review mentions that it's dark, loud and crowded. Well, that's all true, so if that bothers you Kitchen might not be for you. I'd prefer to be glass half full and look at it as cozy and lively. In any case, the food... read more

Kitchen is a small restaurant with an emphasis on freshness . It has fewer offerings but different from most restaurants. The wines are diverse. You can make reservations for six or more people so get there early to be seated. It is dinner only. The entrees range up to $28.00.

Dark, crowded, loud for starters - with a TV going on at an open bar visible from the entire restaurant (ick for anything BUT a bar where you want to see TV). Menu ordinary - food preparation more so especially at the price. And people stand in line for THIS? You have got to be kidding.

There was a saying in Manhatten that the worst thing that can happen to a restaurant is a great review in the New York Times. The place gets very busy, the chef demands a raise ( which he doesn't get , then quits) and high standards fall by the wayside. Hopefully , things are different here in the South. That... More

I am not a foodie. Not a connoisseur of anything. I just like good food and I don't want to pay till it hurts to get it. That being said, the dinner that my husband and I enjoyed Sunday night at K was truly amazing. Here's what we liked: 1. Nice wine list. 2. Chewy, crusty bread with fresh butter... More

For day in day out quality, consistency, and bursting flavors, this is my favorite restaurant in CH. The smoked blue fish is almost sublime. No one has better duck confit; it is lofty, falling off the bone almost with your mere gaze. The french tarts for dessert are very good. The mussels are good but what is different is that... More

For some reason the rating go from "Very Good" (4*) to "Average" (3*). My real rating is 3.5* ("good") We came for lunch, having been there for dinner two years ago. It wasn't quite as good this time. My wife had mussels and fries. It was a Very large portion but they just didn't have a lot of flavor this... More

I had not been back to Kitchen in a couple of years. We went there for lunch. Not very many customers there. I ordered the salad nicoise. It was disappointing. Two small pieces of seared tuna. They tasted fishy and had little flavor. The salad was supposed to have anchovies. There was some sort of small fish, perhaps smelts or... More

Dick knows how to cook and Sue, how to host. It was a wonderful dinner, with a triple cheese appetizer followed by mussels/frites and a hangar steak salad. The bottle of Cote de Rhone suggested paired beautifully with the meals we selected. The chocolate creme pot was the perfect ending to share.

We headed to Chapel Hill to drop our first born child off at college. We stayed at a nice condo through AIRBNB, and the owner recommended Kitchen to us. We met the owner at the door, and she was friendly, informative, and helpful. They did not have a table available immediately, so we ran some errands and returned. She had... More
