Good Food, a Bit Expensive

My wife and I were staying in Cashiers and headed to the Gamekeepers' Tavern one night for dinner. We kind of just drove by and saw it, so weren't really sure what to expect. It's a nice restaurant and we didn't have reservations, but they weren't busy and we were able to be seated. I was kind of... read more

First it is so dark that one must have a little flashlight, provided by the server, to see the menu, or even the food. A little ambience goes a long way, I guess. I ordered the "desconstructed chicken pot pie", I love chicken pie, so thought this would be good, plus at $17 it was one of the more reasonably... More

This was a terrible experience. Our server started with excuses from the start. He told us three tables were seated at once and that he would try his best to take care of us. It took three tries to get the beer order correct as they were out of my first choice and my second choice for an IPA was... More

Staying in Sapphire valley after leave season one should expect limited dining options as many places close for the season after Halloween. It could be that the ones who stay open year round cut back on staff during the off season. We were seated and the bartender was our server, he told us the specials and remarked they only had... We made reservations on Open Table (very convenient) on Saturday night. When we drove up, it looked like it wasn't open, but the restaurant is around the side. The porch had a massive stone fireplace with a blazing fire and seating all around. We were taken to the dining room, which was romantically rustic, with another fireplace. The menu has... More

The men liked the very different selection of meat (Elk, lamb, etc.) Great burger, not so good chicken.Took a long time to get dinner. Good wait staff. Loved the large fireplace and seating and tables around it. Blankets provided so that you could eat outside. Inside very nice . Very pricey, all Ala-Carte.

We have been to the Gamekeeper's Tavern for lunch but this was the first time for dinner. Very nice atmosphere, good food and great service. There is a very extensive wine list for those who look for that kind of thing. Food is on the pricey side but there is something for everyone on the menu.

A gem of an experience that had me thinking I was vacationing in Europe's countryside. A drive to the mountains for leaf season turned into an awesome culinary experience for me and a couple of friends. Timing was just right as we went around a curve enroute to Asheville. Just in time for lunch and I knew this had to... More

Went for dinner. Place had its Halloween decorations up. Loads of ambiance. Cozy, comfortable restaurant. Fire in the fireplace. Gal playing piano bar out on the porch. Food was excellent but pricey. Menu is ala carte. I had 8 oz. sirloin with a peppercorn glaze and marsala mushrooms. Both were outstanding. The wife had a crab cake with baked potato.... More
