Herons' ambiance is wonderful and the restaurant's menu is creative and ambitious. In order to taste as much as possible on my first visit to the restaurant I ordered small plates and had a surprising pumping sour with white chocolate (not hot enough) and the best fois gras I have ever tasted. That dish alone was worth the visit to... More

We returned to Herons, yet again, for their tasting menu. Since our last visit, their format has changed. Currently, they are offering an ever-changing array of small plates--five savory and two desserts. The chef changes the choices so frequently that they come from the kitchen as surprises. (Of course they inquire about dietary restrictions). The dishes are complex and flavorful... More

Love coming to this restaurant for lunch or dinner. The service is always perfect. Wait staff attentive and the food is wonderful. We never feel rushed. Try the spa as well, perhaps in the morning and then Heron's for lunch, perfect way to spend part of your day!

Atmosphere: elegant, food: haute-gastro - a perfect anniversary or romantic dinner. Be prepared to hide your eyes from the prices.

Spent a lovely afternoon with friends at Herons. The Unstead Hotel is decorated so beautifully and naturally for the holidays. You should always go at this time of the year - it's magical. Our lunch was spectacular - the market menu - sunchoke soup was incredible - never had it before - and presented in a most interesting dish and... More

The buffet was well stocked with all the traditional Thanksgiving foods. The service was attentive and quite pleasant. I would rate the food slightly above average for the price, about $85 per person.

Herons is a 5-Star rated restaurant and to us on our visit there, it certainly earned the 5-stars it is noted for. We only had brunch but we will return for many encores. The food was excellent, well prepared, presentation was also excellent, and the service from it's well trained staff was also excellent. Our guests were over-whelmed with their... More

There isn't a negative comment that can be made about our lunch at Herons. The room, the art, the service and the food are wonderful! Yes, it's a bit pricey, but when you leave the restaurant, you will feel like your money was well spent. Plus, you must spend time in The Umstead Hotel. It's absolutely gorgeous!
