First let me say that our meal was good and the service was outstanding; with that said however, you're paying for the novel-ness of the food, not the unique-ness of it. I had elk--correctly prepared (rare) but nothing different than mid-range beef. My wife had bison flank steak--and while good, nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, the only that... More

Friends took us here for dinner. Had heard about the restaurant but never tried. Service and food were wonderful. Wife and I had wild game mixed grill including buffalo and elk. Absolutely perfectly prepared. All food and drinks were timely served and the ambiance, although a little dated was great. View during the day would be fabulous. I would definitely... More

Very, very expensive for what you get; for $42/entree, bison meat itself was less than 2-3 oz of grisly meat-thrown into a sea of kale and mashed potatoes. Should have gone to Montana Grill. Environment is very ordinary with klunky uncomfortable kitchen chairs; the drive up curvy mountain roads not for the faint of heart. But I guess- better than... More

Second visit here and this visit was very consistent with the first. There were some highs and some OKs. The concept is interesting and the setting beautiful, but for the price the OKs bring the rating down a notch. Highs on this second visit were huckleberry fritters with lamb. Delicious, party in the mouth combination of flavors. The escarole salad... More

This is one of the best if not the best place to eat in the highlands of North Carolina. They serve unusual stuff in a very amazing way. Every thing tastes amazing! But it is pricey and you need to make reservations to go. Well worth the save though. I try to go once a year and try something new.... More

This is our second visit to Gamekeeper and it was a great as we remembered it. The view was as nice as the drive up the mountain. Food was great and the service was excellent. Carra was very helpful with her recommendations and we were told that we had the best table in the house. It was a very good... More

You will be surprised at the menu selections, friendly service and wonderful tastes. Great wine selections. Save room for after dinner sweets...yummy. This was a great evening with my bride of over 40 years. One of our favorite "special" places to dine in the high country. A bit pricey and a bit rustic, but very much worth

True, to its name, Gamekeeper offers many different meats to tempt the customer. The men in our group always try the more exotic fare, but I love their soups, salads, and desserts. Appetizers can be fun..salmon fritters served on a rock? All good. This restaurant is off the beaten track and is even open in the cold mountain winters. We... More

Went to The Gamekeeper to celebrate a birthday/graduation. Very nice but still on the casual side. Beautiful setting, parking is a little difficult if you have a big car/truck. Our meals were delicious, duck, rabbit, and wahoo. Our server was not as attentive and friendly as all the other staff. For the money it costs to eat here, we expected... More

The Gamekeeper was the treat meal of our honeymoon in the NC mountains and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere was lovely and our server, Jennifer, was outstanding. We enjoyed 4 courses and several different drinks from the bar between us, and loved every single item. The food was different, but somehow comforting and we truly enjoyed our experience. A... More
