Much More Than a Student Bar

As you drive along Boone's River Street between the business district and the ASU campus, a glance at Cafe Portofino suggests a popular student bar. There are few parking places and a large front porch is likely to be filled with a crowd of bar patrons except in winter. The general impression is... read more

Went to Cafe Portofino with a large group of friends to celebrate my friend's birthday. The server was so nice and patient with our large group. Katie made sure that we all had our drinks full all the time and she recommended several menu items that were absolutely delicious. The appetizers she recommended were great and the meals were even... More

The weather could not have been much worse today, but that didn't stop me from trying out Cafe' Portofinos. The building it is in used to be a maintenance station for the Tweetsie Railroad. The floors in the restaurant are a testament to it's age. There is a separate bar area and also some pool tables. There is a wide variety... More

Great prices, relaxed atmosphere, wide selection of foods to choose from and a bar to the side away from the restaurant. I am a repeat customer & love this local establishment.

I visited this restaurant in May and it was great! The atmosphere is laid back and the food is great for the price. I had the fried green tomato BLT and it was the best sandwich I've ever eaten! Check it out!!

We recently revisited Café Portofino with friends who had never been there and were visiting for the weekend. We were hopeful it would be as good as the last time we were there, and it did not disappoint. We were told by our server there is a new chef who has been there about 2 months, so there were changes... More

When I was in grad school at Appalachian State University, this was my favorite it’s-payday-I-can-splurge place to eat. My husband and I recently visited Boone for the day and I took him to Café Portofino, hoping that my warm, wonderful memories wouldn’t be crushed. I shouldn’t have worried. It has still the same no frills ambiance, creative food, and outstanding... More

We were looking for a restaurant with outdoor seating to take advantage of the nice weather, so we tried Café Portofino based on the recommendations on Trip Advisor. It is a fun, upbeat location frequented by students from the local university. They have a varied, reasonably-priced menu and our server was knowledgeable about the various options when we had questions.... More
