My wife and I and some friends happened upon this place while staying at another friends home near Boone. The most unbelievable Bloody Mary and great Shrimp and Grits made my Sunday brunch terrific. We will definitely be back!

After some shopping in Boone, we began our search for a lunch spot and I was very delighted with our choice of Char. The food was very good, the service was great, and the added bonus of my sandwich on UDI'S GLUTEN FREE bread at no upcharge was a very pleasant surprise. Highly recommend.

Loved the food! he had the blackened chicken sandwich minus garlic and pesto add buffalo mozz. I had the same with blackened tofu instead of chicken. The Blackened tofu sandwich is unbelievable! So delicious I wanted to go back the next day- the flavor was really great and there is a lot of interesting local art on the walls. Very... More

We love to just stop by Char on a Friday evening. Their is a bar menu and a dinner menu. We usually sit out on the patio when weather permits or at the bar. Service has always been great! Some of our favorite appetizers are beef tidbits, fried green tomatoes, artichoke dip and baked brie. Have never had a bad... More

First the positive which was the service. Sat us promptly and food came quickly. The crab bisque was delicious but was cold, Steaks asked to be cooked medium were rare and were very fatty. Portions of other dinners were small for the $ they charge. All in all not a pleasant meal. Will not return.

The first night we ate at the restaurant the food was very good and the service was above average. We were a little disappointed that they ran out of trout and never served us bread but other than that we had a good experience. So we decided to head back. What a mistake the second time around was. We had... More

My husband and I recently were in Boone for our anniversary. We ended up at Char for a late afternoon lunch, probably 2:30. The weather was great so we sat outside and enjoyed the band on the patio. Considering there were only a few other diners the service was a little slow. We were in no hurry so it did... More

My wife and I stopped in this beautiful college town for the night after driving up the Blue Ridge Parkway. We did not have internet access to check Trip Advisor to check out where to eat. We drove around and decided to have dinner at Char, food was fantastic, all freshly made from scratch. Service was friendly and their advice... More

My family stopped in for lunch while visiting Boone over the Memorial Day weekend. I liked the ambience of the place, and the front porch seating was nice although there's no view (unless you like looking at dumpsters while you eat). Sevice was rather slow, but our waiter explained they were short-handed so that's forgivable--things happen sometimes. Decent beer selection,... More
