It was good, but not GREAT

We had lunch at the Speckled Trout Cafe. It was good, a good value, but not anything to rave about. I had the chili and it was average.

First and Last TIME eating at this place....$23.00 for two (2) cheeseburgers - no fries, no extras, never ate at a place that makes you pay 1.50 for each condiment on your sandwich...1.50 Slaw, 1.50 Chili, 1.50 Lettuce..asked to speak to the manager and he stated, "it is what it is"....He needs to take a class on customer service!!! He... More

we ordered appetizers and beers. The appetizers were cold and very scant to say the least. We did enjoy a Blowing Rock Brewery beer but only one because they were out. The prices were through the roof for the amount of food. We will not be going back

The food was ok but way overpriced. Inside atmosphere was terrible. Dirty, weird decorations and very poorly laid out. You enter into an unused room that feels like the restaurant is closed down. Just kept thinking that Robert Irvine should come and teach the owners how to run a restaurant.

When we visit Blowing Rock we eat here 3 or 4 times a year. After reading all the reviews they range from excellent to terrible and I can understand all of them. if you are going for oysters either raw or steamed you will not be disappointed and if you get the plain trout pan sautéed ,grilled, pan fried or blackened... Worst meal all weekend. The place is dumpy and run down. But I was still going to give the food a chance.. I got the stuffed trout which was awful. I usually don't send back food... but this time I had to. The shrimp was overcooked and hard and both the crab and the fish itself tasted funny, like it... More

This place is run by very young people and they work their butts off and do a GREAT job. Yes, it's old and outdated inside. Yes, they serve on paper plates lined with foil. Yes, it ain't the cheapest place. Yes, you order in one place and eat in another. We walked in and were greeted by a very nice... More

I had read all the reviews on this Cafe so I wasn't surprised at the age of the building, the fact that it needed to be upgraded as far as decor and the fact that you ate on paper plates! The reviews most always said the food was good and that is what we wanted. My husband ate the trout... More

Ate here because of the trout which was good not great and they have reserved parking spaces a big plus. Place could use renovations and had a fairly low sanitation rating 91.5. I can see why had ants crawling on top of sweet tea container and place needs some TLC as an earlier reviewer mentioned. You order off board in... More

Everyone in the restaurant was super nice. Interior was clean and effort was made to provide a great experience. I feel bad that they seem to be genuinely interested in providing a good experience, but the experience falls way short of "good". Few suggestions to improve experience: Offer a better value - We spent $31 for 1 speckled trout lunch,... More
