We probably picked a bad time to go as the place was teeming with tourists like us. Nevertheless, the pungent, steaming, tasty yellow squash soup was brought promptly and we enjoyed the apple pie, which had an excellent flaky crust.

The Veranda is known the Western North Carolina Mountains for a great place for lunch (it is only open for lunch). Located on Cherry St. in Black Mountain it has a welcoming downhome decor with wait staff wearing handmade aprons. Their menu is very eclectic for a variety of sandwiches, wraps, grilled sandwiches, salads, soups, and homemade desserts. I opted... More

Lunch here today with my wife. Very busy at nearly 1 pm on a weekday after Labor Day and before foliage season. And for good reason. Quaint, comfortable, smiling service, and great food. We shared a bowl of Summer Squash Soup with Basil ($4.99) which we both savored and tried to guess at all the ingredients. Wonderful. That was followed... More

Veranda's food is all good, but their soups are outstanding! Fresh ingredients, creative blending. I've never had one that wasn't delectable.

We eat here every time we visit black mountain. Our family loves to eat out back on the patio. They have great food. I like the potato soup, and grilled cheese with tomato and bacon. My husband loves the shrimp and grits. The kids enjoy the grilled cheese. Always a great time here.

We really enjoyed the food. They had this side called the Indian summer salad, which is a mixture of corn, green beans, onions and possibly roasted red pepper that's marinated in vinegar which is delicious!the Asian chicken wrap was also good and the combination worked perfectly. My husband got the Bavarian pretzel club which he also loved- so much that... More

Probably the best place to go for lunch in Black Mountain. Great selection and friendly staff and right in the centre of the town.

While visiting North Carolina, our host friends drove us to Black Mountain so that we could eat lunch at the Veranda. Each of the six of us ordered something so fresh and delicious, whether it was a sandwich, soup or salad. It was also a fun atmosphere and very friendly wait staff. The gift shop part in the front was... More
