We come to this area about once a year and Phil's is one of our got to go to places. The BBQ ribs are wonderful and the brunswick stew is outstanding. We tried to get Phil to tell us the recipe one time, but he said it was a family secret. Oh well, guess I will just have to keep... More

Just tried this bbq "joint". It was very good. Phil's offers a wide variety of sauces - mustard, white, spicy, Eastern Carolina, and sweet. I liked a couple of them; however, they all seemed too thin and watery for my taste. Phil's has chicken, pork and brisket. He also has two types of slaw -- vinegar and coleslaw. The house... More

Traveling annually through Western NC, finding that place to eat that you love is sometimes challenging. We have stopped over the years at a few BBQ locations vowing never to return. Driving down I40, Phil's signs kept appearing. The location was not in the middle of the busy town but in the other direction. Phil must know that he has... More

Decided to give this place a try on a recent trip to the mountains. The pork BBQ was very good. Didn't care much for the slaw. The service was great and all the workers were so friendly. We would go here again if in the area.

This is an edit of a previous review, as we go to Phil's whenever we're in Black Mountain. I actually would not recommend the pork or chopped brisket, but we've enjoyed everything else!

The BBQ here is fine. The sauces let it down, though. Lovely fries and great sandwiches... the veggie burger is outstanding! The place has a fantastic atmosphere! It is a proper BBQ joint. And the staff was just lovely.... very friendly and bubbly.

I visit Phil's BBQ every time I come to Black Mountain. They never let me down, always great portions, excellent taste, and great service from the front counter including the cooks. You know this is a great place when the Nc Highway Patrol eats here. This is a Family Friendly Atmosphere. They also offer beer but their sweet tea is... More

That about says it - the food is really good here and this joint has a fun look. We are so glad we went here - it was seriously good food. We had the sampler, slaw, and the stew - all really good. The stew is spicy - but so good ! We plan to return to try the ribs... More

Seven or eight of us went to Phil's during a photography meeting in Black Mountain and thoroughly enjoyed Phil's. Very informal, order at the counter, go pick up your drink and the meal is delivered. We had a variety of food from the spare ribs to chicken and everyone enjoyed. My wife and I split a full rack of baby... More

My fiance, being a former bbq competitor even cooking for the Memphis in May challenge has yet to have any other comment for other bbq joints ribs then, "eh, they're ok".... until today. He was quite pleased with the tender cook of the meat; moist but still attached to the bone. Sauce not overly sweet; enough to enhance the already... More
