Located downstairs from Freds Mercantile, the deli is open for breakfast and lunch. We ordered our meal then sat out on the patio and enjoyed the cool weather. The food was served quickly and was delicious! Try this deli at least once during your stay on Beech mountain!

Very interesting general store in the mountains. The restaurant part of the business is downstairs and has beautiful outside dining area. Service was very good. Prices reasonable. Food good. I will visit again next time I am in the area.

Although Fred's is actually an historic general merchandise store, the deli is a nice place to stop for lunch. You can eat inside or outside. If you eat outside, you can bring your dog with you. They have a nice selection of sandwiches. You place your order inside and they will bring the food to your table. We have enjoyed... More

I think it's very hard not to stop by Fred's General Mercantile when one visits Beech Mountain! Number one, everyone talks about the place; Number two, the place has never closed since its open in 1979! The Backside Deli is downstairs and only opens for breakfast and lunch. We only went for breakfast and it was good (nothing extraordinary good.)... More

The pulled pork from Fred's was better than we had at a nicer restaurant. The menu variety, service, and food was great.

My wife and I went to the Generals Store which is attached to the deli and we were made to feel very uncomfortable. I can admit that it has been decades since I was followed around in a store and made to feel like a potential criminal who would shoplift. It was an eerie feeling. Finally, when my wife and... More

We had breakfast at Fred's as we heard it was the best on beech mountain. I had Fred's muffin which is an English muffin with egg, cheese and I added country ham with a side if hash browns. The country ham was extremely salty, so I took it off and didn't eat it. The hash browns were not very good... More

Great place to grab a bite to eat and get supplies. Friendly staff and great chili! Homemade apple turnovers and cinnamon rolls for breakfast.

The coffee in the mornings is okay, the sandwiches here are a wee bit overpriced but fairly good. But that's not why I come here. I order the apple pie. And I indulge. Each bite a little piece of heaven dancing on your tongue. The homemade cinnamon buns are incredible too!

Fred's Mercantile Store has a little bit of everything like an old country general store. Downstairs on back side is tiny deli. The chef makes daily specials. I had 2 pieces of fried chicken, huge helping of macaroni & cheese, huge helping of fresh green beans with ham, 2 big homemade biscuits, and a drink for $6.50. It was more... More
