Stopped and had lunch when day while vacationing in the area. The restaurant is really part of a bar, but the servers were very attentive and friendly. I had the fried catfish, and it was very good. My husband had the chicken fried steak, and he said it was delicious - the steak wasn't tough at all, which sometimes happens... More

. . . but food was pretty average for a sports bar type of place. Nachos were good, but everything else tried in our party was very average. Still nice relaxing location.

Sadly enough we only got to eat at the smokehouse twice in our week in North Carolina..The first time we went for dinner and it was fabulous...Our waiter Matt had just recently started working there and he was great...Much of the food had a Louisiana flair. The flavors were delicious! The second time we visited we met Tracy..Both of these... More

Love the atmosphere and the selections of beer and wine, but the food is average at best. We have eaten here twice and both times we were disappointed with the food.

Just gotta go and eat here! This place has awesome food, with a wide choice of meals. The waitress we had was very friendly and welcoming. Just to let you know, the front door is locked after a certain time (can't remember exactly what time) but there is a back door and patio to enter after. Wish we would have... More

I didn't expect such a place in this small town. I had a wonderful plate of ribs. My server Tracy was extremely personable. I'll definitely be coming back!

Casual venue, wide and varied menu, interesting beer list, "wine amnesty!," and the friendliest service in the area. Love the dog-friendly deck too. Be sure to visit this place for a friendly, fun meal.

Good bar food, pastas, appetizers. Stayed too late at the bar after we were joined by most of the local crowd. Big yard under a wide tree out back to sit and drink.

Trying to convince a New Orleanian that there is legitimate Cajun food in Banner Elk is a tough sell, and Bayou did not completely succeed. The gumbo is really more like a shrimp stew -- but it is savory and quite spicy. There is also a Texas component to the restaurant, and the barbecue was quite good. Decent selection of... More

Such a great place to go! Live music, great food, great bartenders, and overall atmosphere. Bayou is my favorite place to go in Banner Elk!
