When we first arrived in Banner Elk I was driving around doing some exploring and I saw the Painted Fish Café in the small shopping center, and from the outside it just didn't look like it was going to be a great restaurant. Later in the week while out doing something else, someone told me we should go there that... More

I'm not sure why my expectations weren't high when we visited The Painted Fish, but whatever expectation level I had was far surpassed. One reason for our visit was a coupon, which may have been a reason for tempered expectations. In any event, they have great cuisine of all sorts (my wife and I both got seafood), the wait staff... After passing by many times we decided to stop in and check it out. Super kid friendly place - varied menu, fresh fruit side, crusts cut off the sandwich. Reasonably priced. Not a huge menu and portions are on the smaller side. House made dressings are yummy, as are the potato chips. At least at lunch it sea to attract... More

Offered different entries and had exceptional sevice. We took our grand daughter to Banner Elk & stayed in a timeshare. We had eaten in the same location over many years, as different named establishments. This new business offers a unique ding experience for couples and/or families.

We went recently with our friends who live in the area and have gone many times to this neighborhood restaurant,it was our first time, but certainly not our last.In our party of six, four had the Pot Roast special which they said was wonderful and tasted like home cooking and two had the NC trout including myself. We both enjoyed our fish which... We stopped by during Sunday brunch for salads and dessert. Both the Painted House salad and Greek Salad were made and dressed to perfection. The Greek salad had an exceptional balsamic vinaigrette dressing. We finished the meal with the blueberry pie, one of the best I have ever tasted. This was not the first time we have been to this... We enjoyed a fine dinner here while spending a timeshare week in Banner Elk. It was a nice find that we had not expected, and we would definitely revisit when we return to that area.

The Painted Fish is great - food and service both terrific. Our family of three went for dinner on a week night; the place was full but we fortunately arrived as another party was leaving so we were seated right away. It was disappointing that the outdoor dining area was not operating, but it had been raining on and off... More

Visited Beech Mountain for Memorial Day weekend and dined at The Painted Fish on Monday. It was our best meal of the trip. Service was great - as always - and dinner was yummy. Get any seafood dish and you will not be disappointed! Great craft beers and wine selection too.

A desk cleark told me about all of the places arround, and mentioned the the head chief of the fancy place had quit and started his own. If you want the $200 dollar meal for $45, this is the place. I had the fresh trout with cheese grits and collard greens. Wow. What did he do to those greens and... More
