It's all about the beef !

With every trip we make to visit family in Buffalo requires a stop at Charlie the Butcher. This is the best place in Buffalo area to get a Beef on Weck. Outstanding, fresh rolls, MR beef carved to order. The horseradish will clear out your sinus for sure. My mother had a bowl of beef vegetable... read more

We usually make it back to Buffalo a couple of times/year to visit my wife's family. As we leave the airport the landmark for turning left is "Charlie the Butcher" and I always ask my wife it is any good? Finally, she got tired of me asking so we decided to stop in for lunch and now I regret passing... More

Close to the airport , not the fanciest place in town, but Delicious sandwiches. Not just hand sliced beef but variety of soups and other meats , pork, polish sausage, etc. Very reasonable prices, fast service. And the owners in the house so things run smoothly. A Buffalo institution, and a must stop for the real taste of Buffalo -... More

I had the Beef on weck. Beef was very tender and the sandwich had great beef flavor. I added a little bit of horseradish and mustard. My wife had the corned beef on rye. Again the meat was tender and had great flavor. For the price I expected larger portions. We both had the cucumber salad, just like grandma used... More

Beef on Weck is a delicious regional roast beef sandwich and Charlie the Butcher does it really well. The beef is house roasted to a succulent medium rare then generously hand sliced and placed in a kimmelweck roll. Warning, if you like your meat well done this sandwich is not for you. Ask for a side of a jus to... More

If you like beef on weck ( weck is a special Bullalo roll) go to Charlie's for hand carver beef, chicken and perhaps corned beef. Soups to knock your socks off.. A basic clean dive, near the airport...a clasic in the suburbs. Try it...you'll love the lunch or finer!

The food was delicious for everyone in the party, and the Beef on Weck is a must-try. I had the carved turkey with the cranberry relish and it was fresh and hearty.

Beef on weck is Buffalo and Western NY's version of the roast beef sandwich. You can generally find respectable versions of the kimmelweck roll but more often than not the roast beef is overcooked and drowned in juice in order to make it SEEM moist. Not so with Charlie the Butcher. Their's is an excellent regional sandwich cut to order... More

We stopped here for lunch on a Monday about 11:40. I had expected a line but we breezed right up to the counter. We enjoyed the beef on weck, but would have liked the beef rarer. The cucumber salad was delicious.

A line out the door signals this as a local favorite. I enjoyed the beef in wreck, which was great, but could have had a bit more beef. The rice pudding reminded me of my grandmother's! Don't expect to find a seat during the lunch rush.
