Love the mid 20th century ambiance

The food was very good and the service excellent. My husband is celiac and had a nice beef plate. It was Saturday, so I took advantage of the goulash. I found the sauce to be just right, just enough paprika and great texture. We will definitely return on future visits to the Buffalo area.

Been meaning to visit here for a while, and a soccer tournament at a nearby facility gave us the chance. We beat the Sunday brunch crowd so experienced great food, service and spirits. This olde German restaurant is known for its beef on weck and, depending on who you ask, is the best in Buffalo. I've had it elsewhere in... More

Stopped by with a colleague for a late lunch on a busy work day. The entrance is a bit sketchy, esp if you were with someone who is a bit unsteady on their feet, but that said everything else was terrific. The server Debbie was great, attentive and friendly. The meal was very good and a yummy beef on wieck.... More

You'll find an earlier, unkinder review, but we did stop by again and it was better, but still not shrine-worthy... nice, friendly greeting, nice atmosphere, cheery waitress, it is, indeed, a trip back to the '50s... we each ordered roast beef specials and while they were tasty, the beef was, to put it charitably, chewy... preferred the sides, including beets,... We ate here with relatives during the Thanksgiving holiday. Schwabl's is known for their roast beef sandwiches and we visit each time we are in the area. Western NY is one of only a few areas where you can get a beef on weck (robust roll with a salted top). Schwabl's did not disappoint - the beef sandwiches were excellent... More

My husband and I have heard great things about this legendary establishment so, on a recent weekend trip to Buffalo, we tried it. It was great. Fortunately, we were there on Saturday so we tried the special (goulash), which was wonderful. We split a serving of that and a beef on weck, which was delicious. The German potato salad was... Buffalo may be best known for chicken wings, but another less well know local delicacy is roast beef on kimelweck (spelling?) sandwich. A kimelweck is a roll with a salted top and caraway seeds. Schwabl's has been around for a very long time and I know of no place that does a better job with this. The restaurant is small... More

I have been meaning to stop in for years. I'm from out of town, and Come to buffalo a half dozen times a year. I'm always close enough to want to stop, but far enough away to never get the chance. I drove by it today, and turned around. Glad I did. Roast beef on kümmelwick, homemade German potato salad,... More

I came to this place prepared to hate it. An attempt to get in to a competitor failed, so I was forced to go here. Based on research, I thought their menu was pretentious and their prices high (which is why: I was going to hate the hell out of this place). We entered, and we were suddenly in the... More

Good portions and savory roast beef. Soups (Manhattan clam chowder and beef stroganoff) were delicious. Our server (Debbie) was very attentive. Nice place!
