WE wandered around a cold and windy Whitianga in the middle of winter looking for somewhere suitable for us to take our children for dinner we found Cambells Steak & Ale House. There was a large group that had arrived just prior to us and the waitress advised us and put our orders in quickly so they would be done... More

It was a quiet evening with only us in the restaurant when we dined but the service and the meal were fantastic but going in Winter season is very quiet but we preferred it that way as we can guess its a very busy place in summer season. They also have courtesy coach to pick you up and drop you... More

Ate here for dinner twice largely due to the curtesy van available and the desire for a glass of wine or two. We both had steaks two nights running and really enjoyed our meals. It wasn't overly busy given the time of year.

On a recent visit to the Coromandel with my wife and family, we came across this typically NZ hostelry! The food was VERY filling, especially the spare ribs. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. They even have a courtesy bus for those, who overindulge!

It was pressed meat. My wife's steak was OK but not as tender and tasty as we are used to in OZ. The atmosphere would probably be better in peak season

We went here after arriving late in the day. Campbell's was recommended by the staff at our motel as possibly the only place still open that might be serving food. The place was almost empty and the bartender told us she would have to check to see if the cook would stay. We could see him cooking some steaks in... More

After a day at the beach we decided to find a relaxed scene for dinner. Maybe we pickd somewhere too relaxed. The scene is an unusually conglomerate of Irish pub and surf bar. I don't think it has decided who it wants to be yet. Service takes you to the bar for yourself to order. There err four of us.... More

We have been here before - was exceptional. Now change of staff. Food was overcooked, inedible. Sent it back, came back nearly as bad. Disappointing. Get a new chef before you go out of business. I could have done better!

If you like just your basic burger and chips this is the place to go. It was very tasty and the service was really good.

It is not the Ritz - we didn't expect it but tried it despite some recent, less than flattering reviews. Food is simple but well presented and tasty with supporting ales to boot. Service was pretty good, no delays and the three ladies who were front of house were very helpful and cheerful. Plenty of seating inside and out so... More
