Great location & generous helpings

We chose Squids because we wanted seafood and we were not disappointed. The menu option I chose was beautifully served and the generous. My husband chose the banana prawn option and although everything tasted good he hated having to shell the prawns with his fingers. Would be happy to go again.

Informal cafe with outstanding seafood. Sesame encrusted gurnard was tasty. Huge portions, so arrive hungry. Reservations important during busy season.

We had dinner there with the two of us and enjoyed the food and wine. Started with fresh oysters and they really tasted great. Lebanes flatbread with hummus also. Main courses: we had salmon and bluenose: Wow! Also fine sav's. A place to remember!

For a seafood restaurant we found the menu unimaginative and the food adequate but certainly not special. Fish and chips served without battered or crumbed fish is NOT fish and chips. With the exception of our main waiter (a young, very professional woman) the service was not at all sophisticated - reaching across guests to serve other guests, not clearing... More

We arrived Squids just after 8, excited for some local seafood. The manager informed us that the kitchen was just closing, but that they would keep it open for us of we were ok being a bit quick. We were so grateful - very accommodating of him! We ordered the lemon pepper squid to start...yum!!! Both of our meals were... More

If you love seafood this is the place for you. Not only do you have very pleasant surroundings, but the selection of sea food is great. Many products are sourced locally and that certainly is a plus. For those who are not in fish there are alternatives. Many of our guests have also spoken most highly of this restaurant and... More

I have been here several times and haven't had a bad experience yet, this visit was no exception. Lovely setting across from the Marina, great views. I sat outside and enjoyed all the surrounds. Food was good, seafood chowder was one of the best I have had, just beautiful. Salmon was OK, bit overcooked but tasty. Service was great.

They were nice enough to serve us when we walked in just as they were closing. We both had the salmon and it was the best fish meal we have had in New Zealand in 3+ weeks. I also had a great glass of the local Chardonnay. I highly recommend Squids.

We turned up without booking anywhere to eat on a Friday night in Whitianga in late February, the only table left was outside but as it still had a bit of late sun we took it. The location was good, the weather stayed warm - the posh fish and chips (blue cod that day) and squid tagine were both good.... More

We dined at Squids by recommendation from a local,we were looking for a great menu for fish. The food we ordered was the posh fish & chips and the Chowder given there was nothing more exotic like Crab or Cray or Prawn or Scallop or flounder etc.The home cut chips are more widely known as wedges. The food was ok but... More
