This was by far the best dinner we had while in Zanzibar - and what a deal! You must make reservations beforehand and pay a deposit, there are a limited number of tables available and the menu is set for all dining and varies according to what is fresh. You'll want to arrive slightly before the meal start time which... More

The menu is short but brilliant, I particularly liked the super-fresh fish dishes. The spiced coffee was a first for me and one I will try again!

Dear Claire, Thank you so much for writing such a short and sweet review of our rooftop lunch. Being seafood based both at Lunch and Dinner we are lucky enough to have our own fisherman who bring his catch straight from his boat to our door, so it is always as you say ‘super fresh’. We are proud of our... More

We had saved Café at Emerson Spice for our last lunch as we weren't able to dine the night before, they are closed on Thursdays. The food was indeed ordinary, in flavour, presentation and choice. We dined in Stonetown over three nights and each time found the food and ambiance to be a poor match for Nungwi. We each had... More

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review and I’m sorry that you weren’t able to sample our five course dinner menu before you left the island. I must admit being puzzled that you say you had the vegetarian starter. Our ‘Café Style’ lunch menu has no starters, which makes it hard to see how that... More

We used to visit here a lot but now the carpets and low tables have been replaced by crowded restaurant style seating. The waiting staff are uninterested and several items on the menu were "off". Service was slow and arrogant. Until management save this restuarant from complacency don't bother visiting

My, my…it seems as though you caught us on a very bad day! And you came to the wrong hotel. The old Emerson and Green, recently reopened as Emerson on Hurumzi, has the Persian carpets and low tables. However, that is no excuse for your disappointment. Occasionally if our fisherman doesn’t find certain things, in this instance lobster and octopus,... More

We celebrated a special wedding anniversary by dining on the rooftop of Emerson Spice and we were very impressed by the delicious food, excellent service and amazing views. The combination of all these factors made for a perfect and truly memorable evening. Highly recommended.

Even if you don't stay at the wonderful Emerson Spice Hotel, when in Stonetown you must enjoy the views, food and service at this rooftop restaurant. The servers are charming and personable and enjoy answering questions. The tasty food has all the spice and flavor you expect in Zanzibar. If you make the climb up the winding stairs you will... We actually went to the Emerson Harumzi but it was fabulous. There was a big group of us upstairs on the roof terrace and the combination of the view, service and food made a very personal experience. Very enjoyable

This restaurant exceeded expectations by far. Probably our most memorable evening in Stonetown - panoramic view over the city, the calling of the muezzins from nearby mosques, unique location and delicious food! The restaurant is perched on top of the Emerson Spice hotel - and I mean "perched"! Be prepared to scale the 4 or so storeys to reach your... More

We came for lunch here first thing upon arriving to stone town without a reservation. Manager Russel met us at reception and offered us a warm welcome and personal tour of this exquisite boutique hotel. The roof top view was nothing to rave about but our server Ali Simba certainly was. He had great sense of humor and went out... More
