This restaurant exceeded expectations by far. Probably our most memorable evening in Stonetown - panoramic view over the city, the calling of the muezzins from nearby mosques, unique location and delicious food! The restaurant is perched on top of the Emerson Spice hotel - and I mean "perched"! Be prepared to scale the 4 or so storeys to reach your... More

We came for lunch here first thing upon arriving to stone town without a reservation. Manager Russel met us at reception and offered us a warm welcome and personal tour of this exquisite boutique hotel. The roof top view was nothing to rave about but our server Ali Simba certainly was. He had great sense of humor and went out... More

For average restaurant prices, you get a great rooftop view, tasty food, and a laid back atmosphere. I had battered squid for about USD 8. My wife had kingfish for USD 9. Delicious!

We ate here when we stayed at Emerson Spice. Five course meal for $30. The chef buys the foods that morning and that is when the menu is set. It is a very small restaurant with beautiful woodwork and amazing sunset views. We thought it was a perfect evening. We also ate breakfast here and my wife legitimately thought that... More

Myself and friend dined on the rooftop restaurants lastnight ( 15 July) after paying deposit on booking on Sunday. We were more than pleasantly surprised when a menu and a welcome not arrived at our hotel reception that day. We arrived at 6 in time for cocktails at sunset. We were warmly welcomed by Russell who kindly gave us a... More

Have to make payment in advance, even though I had already booked and paid for a room in 2 days time. $30 for food. Good value. Some very nice flavours. The risotto was great as was the entree. Great of Russell to walk you from the ground all the way to the top to be seated. Cocktails were average but... More

Sunset overlooking Stonetown, sipping well-made cocktails prior to embarking on a 5-course trip through a sensational variety of local dishes, all for $30 a pop? Pretty tough to beat. They brought me a whole cake for my birthday and sang on-key (and they didn't do the Jambo song!) We even e-mailed them to find out what ingredients were in their... More

At the value, $30 for an excellent multi - course meal and rooftop view of the sunset to kill for, this is a must - have experience for any trip to stone town. Make sure you arrive in time to see the sunset, get a drink and enjoy the view! Manager Russell took us upstairs on arrival and stopped briefly... More

Emerson House is a lovely old hotel in the middle of Stone Town. My friend and I were cordially greeted on arrival and escorted up 3 flights of stairs to the roof restaurant overlooking Stone town. Our waiter quickly gave us our menus and took our drinks order. The menu consisted of a 5 course 'degustation' style meal. The courses,... More

We loved our dinner at Emerson Spice. It has a great view over Stone Town and the food is delicious, different from anything we ate in Zanzibar. We spend a fantastic and memorable evening there.
