An unforgettable roof top experience

We had a wonderful 5 course meal atop Emerson Spice hotel on our last night in Stone Town. The chefs were able to accommodate my various food allergies by plating me separate meals from my spouse for a few courses. We were equally pleased with this. Dear Dietitia! Ahsante Sana Rafiki! What a super review! I was so glad that my Team and I were able to accommodate you at short notice. As we only have twelve tables, seating a maximum of twentu-four Diners, we tend to get booked up quite quickly. It is, however, always worth calling in, and speaking to me our one of... More

Dear Neu, Thank you so much for your 'Short but Sweet' review of The Teahouse Rooftop Restaurant, here at Emerson Spice. It is, as you say, essential to book in advance. With only twelve tables and a maximum capacity of only 24 Diners, we tend to fill up very quickly. Also, as we serve a Daily Changing, Seafood based, Set,... More

Attended a friends rehearsal dinner at Emerson. The food was great as was the service. We had a set menu prepared for the occasion and everything was lovely! Watched the sunset from their beautiful terrace. I warmly recommend it for anyone going to Stone Town!

I'd found out about the dinner held at Emerson a few months before our trip, and was shocked at how inexpensive it was for a 5 course experience ($35USD/per person). First of all, the hotel was STUNNING. One of the most beautiful buildings I've seen. However, the dinner really impressed us. The host was lovely to chat to, and made... More

Dear Courtney, 'Ahsante Sana Kabisa!' We're so pleased that you loved Emerson Spice! It took its Founder and Namesake, Emerson, some five years to create his third Stonetown Hotel. His first, 'Emerson House', was opened in the early '90's, and then sold to finance his 'Grande Dame of Stonetown', the magnificent 'Emerson on Hurumzi', as it is now known. The... More

The 94 steps to get to the restaurant are a challenge but once there and recovered it was certainly worth the effort. The five course taster menu is a joy for all lovers of good food. No meat on the menu so don't be disappointed ,but the fish and vegetable dishes certainly make up for it. The menu changes every... More

Dear Lynn, Thank you so much for not only such a lovely Review of The Teahouse Restaurant here at Emerson Spice, but also for making it up all 94, did you count them?!?, stairs! One of our favorite things we did in Stone Town. Great views - definitely go a bit early to have a drink and watch the sunset! Hearing the call to prayer echoing around the rooftops is neat as well. Excellent service, and great food - a fun chance to try a bunch of different things. It's a set menu, 5... More

As the first, of our five, course 'Taste Safari' Degustation Menu is served at 7p.m., it's always a treat to arrive early, have your pick of the twelve tables, and enjoy a 'Sundowner'... More

We splashed out on this 5 course meal for our last night in Zanzibar. At 35 USD a head it is pricey by Zanzibar standards but well worth it. the food is an exotic mix of fusion and local cuisine. If we were to criticise the meal I would say that it tried to be a little too clever at... More

From the very start, when being greeted downstairs, you are given a full sensory experience. The Hotel Manager took us upstairs, explaining the history behind the hotel and restaurant. We started with excellent cocktails while watching the sunset. Great use of local ingredients. Out of 5 courses, three were excellent, inspired dishes, while two missed the mark slightly. Great selections... More
