It's a beautiful restaurant near the water and the night market in Stone town. I didn't really like the food as I found it lack taste and there isn't much variety, but it local and the service is great. There are many cats of you find that anoying, it might be a deal breaker, but I didn't mind.

We ate here for lunch on the recommendation of the concierge at our hotel. We sat outside, where there were cats roaming around and lots of buzzing flies. Vendors would walk by and offer their goods, but after a polite "no thank you", they would move on. My salad with avocado and prawns was delicious with a light tangy dressing.... More

We arrived on the evening of the 20th of August 2014 and sat outside across from forodhani gardens. We made our orders which took approximately 2 hours to arrive, prior to receiving our food, I checked with the manager on the hold up, to which he responded that they had an event running inside at the same time and the... The restaurant is very easy to find, that's a big issue in Stone Town. We had dinner to the sounds of the Taarab music, sitting on cushions on the floor - Was very nice and authentic. It's really worth coming there just for the music. The food was probably the best we had in Tanzania, we really enjoyed it.

I was spending the night at Hiliki House which is bed and breakfast so i did ask the manager Abud to suggest it a special place where to have dinner, he did suggest the Monsoon restaurant at Foradhani garden just 5 minutes walking distance from Hiliki house. The welcome at the restaurant was very good i was like that night... More

We went in on a Wednesday night to get the music. The other night for this is Friday. To listen to the music you sit Arab style on cushions on the floor. We both had kingfish, which was very good. The taraab band consisted of violin, mandolin, African drum, and zither. The musicians were lots of fun, and responsive to... More

Monsoon is a great location - near the water - and has great food. Main courses come with several different vegetables. (During our visit, they were okra, spinach, and chickpeas.) We had the stuffed eggplant and the octopus, and both were delicious.

Zanzibar, and Stone Town specially, is home to surprisingly good restaurants. The swahili food blends in very nicely with western tastes. In the Monsoon, one finds the best of the local cuisine in a beautiful tiny place in the heart of Stone Town, very close to the Sultan' s Palace. This is the first place I would recommend for a... We were very fortunate to have been treated to an evening at Monsoon. The food was excellent (grilled fish and rock lobster can definitely be recommended) and the atmosphere was really great. They make an effort to introduce the customer to traditional Zanzibar hospitality, not just in the food but also in the seating arrangements - the large indoor room... More
