Great food, service wanting

This is a cute little place, centrally-located near the the old British Consulate and the beach. The food is really good, but the service was quite poor. We went there for lunch and there were few people in the place, but they took so long to get our food that we nearly left. This is us on holiday... read more

When we eventually were served food, it was OK. We chose the 3 course set menu. It all took so long, that we gave up on the dessert we paid for. Very expensive. Give it a miss!

Ate lunch here, really nice food. Wished we'd had a chance to get dinner there too. Definitely a place to eat

On the last day in Africa we took the time to have a lunch at this restaurant. The food was good and the service with a smile. We were positively surprised when we walked inside for the toilet by seeing the tables inside made for sitting on the ground with a lot of carpets around. If I had knew earlier... More

It was our third and last night in Stone Town and knew that this restaurant serves local cuisine and thought to go for it. It was very close from our hotel too. We first had a stroll at the opposite Faradhani square observing the local life and then headed for dinner. And to a nice surprise, they had Tarab music... More

We were attracted by the chance to hear taarab music performed live, dining swahili style, sat on the floor. We were fortunate to be sat right next to the musicians and it was great to see them interacting with our children. During a break, the drummer invited our son to play his drum with him, which was a real thrill.... More

Superb meal at Monsoon. Went for one seafood and one gourmet on the three course meal offer along with a bottle of South African white. All food excellent, particularly rock lobster and king prawn curry. Quirky inside decor, where you have to remove your shoes to eat sat on cushions. Restaurant extremely quiet, but this meant dedicated service. Slight drawback... More

Sitting on the floor on cushions for the meal was great. It added character. The food was good but the portions were small. We went to the night market afterwards for some more food!

Three words which possibly should not appear in the same sentence as regards this establishment. If fine cuisine means expensive and small helpings then they have it mastered. The roadside seating is all well and good if the road isn't in constant use and doesn't feature a parked car with a hair trigger alarm! On our visit we were treated... More
