Nestled in New York City's Upper West Side, Levain headquarters is a cozy neighborhood bakery where locals are greeted by name. A steady stream of loyal regulars stand side by side with tourists, eager to sample the legendary baked goods. From an inventive array of rustic breads to the world-famous six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie, everything is baked on-site, fresh every day from the finest natural ingredients. What doesn't sell that day goes to help feed the hungry-a mission that has been solidly in place since the beginning. The bakery was founded in 1994 by friends Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes. At the time, Connie was in banking and Pam in Fashion. The two, both competitive swimmers, trained together for the Ironman and-not surprisingly, as their tireless workouts left them feeling starved for great food- they began a passionate dialog about creating the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie. Within just a few years, Levain Bakery had become a neighborhood institution and a destination for epicurious travelers from around the world. Demand continued to grow. In 2000, to satisfy their regular clientele summering in the Hamptons, the two opened a second bakery in the village of Wainscott on Long Island's East End. And today, through their website, they now ship their world-famous cookies to happy fans around the globe.

Amazing Cookies

These women know how to make cookies. These cookies are huge. I think they are 6 ounces each. The chocolate chip, the double dare ya and the oatmeal. Oh my goodness. Never thought I could eat a pound of cookies by ,myself, but yes, I have done it here !

This is my favourite bakery. The scones are buttery and moist. The choc chip biscuits are heavenly. Oatmeal raisin and choc peanut butter are also sublime. A must to pick up before arriving at Montauk.

Stopped in to grab some cookies for dessert as we were going to a family dinner. Cookies were insanely good, not too sweet, amazing consistency, and a flavor for every palate. I'm not usually a sweets person but these cookies are truly exceptional. Some may think the treats are a little pricey but I think they are well worth it.... More

What an experience. The breakfast foods, brioche, scone, muffins are out of this world. The cookies according to my husband, was also decadent and delicious. Reasonably priced with above par service and NO attitude one must take the time to visit this establishment while out East!

We heard about Levain bakery so we thought we had to try it. We went in to try the cookies but also got a nice loaf of bread. The bread was just outstanding, we loved it. Do not get me wrong, the cookies are excellent also but we just really loved the bread. My wife is a bread baker so... More

The cookies here are a must have. The are HUGE, so you don't need to eat one by yourself. I stop here every time that I am in the area and pick up a bunch.

Cookies. Oversized way overpriced cookies is pretty much all they sell. A few loaves of bread on a rack which nobody seemed to want barely qualifies them as a "bakery". Stopped in hoping for a breakfast (muffins, croissants, scones, etc.) but no. Only cookies. $4/pop! Not much else to say. We stopped in on a Sunday morning and while it... More
