Back to greatness

We used to love Holmes and Watson before it turned into a terrible restaurant and closed down. I'm so glad that Finnbar's Pub has taken the place of the old Holmes & Watson. We ordered the cottage pie in the "Irish" establishment and waited an hour for it to arrive at the table. What came was stringy, tough meat floating in a thin gravy heavily scented with tarragon topped with four swirls of dry mashed potatoes. Absolutely inedible. Served alongside was a oily piece of "Irish " bread too hard and crunchy to... More

My wife and I visited Finnbar's recently. We were impressed by the draft beer selection, about 32 microbreweries represented and I don't believe a single mass-produced yellow lager. The menu didn't have a large selection but it had some interesting items. I had a cottage pie which consisted of brisket beef (same cut of meat as corned beef but not... More

there are so many great places in troy, but this place should be at the top of your list. We stopped in recently on a Saturday afternoon for a great late lunch! The menu is full of awesome comfort food taken up a notch with better, fresher ingredients. As with many places in troy this place has a great history,... More

Stopped by for a quick bite. Friendly atmosphere, and decent food. Service is friendly but slow. They have a great patio, but the night I was there, it was snowing. Walking in the neighborhood was lovely with the lights, the snow - looked like Christmas in March.

I had a corned beef sandwich and beer. The service was excellent and it has a small town feel to it. The prices are on par with this type of place. Good spot for Irish beer lovers

You can never go wrong here - the food is always delicious - traditional options with a new twist at a low price. The ingredients are fresh, menu items innovative and they charge a fraction of what they could. Add to that friendly and welcoming staff, a great selection of beer and a pretty cool historic building. The mac and... More

Went there with some co-workers last week. Server was very friendly and quite good looking. He was attentive and very knowledgeable. Alcohol prices were a touch higher than expected. Food suggestions were spot on and very delicious.

Lovely selection of pub food and pints (including some amazing Irish imports). It's great to see someone with an actual knowledge of Irish cuisine (and a relief to NOT see bleedin 'cornbeef and cabbage' - on a menu!). Especially the curry cheese chips and the rasher sambo :) Will definitely be back next time I'm in Troy

Ate here recently while on a business trip. It is a nice pub atmospher, that preserved the old architecture of the region. the food is a fabulous take on traditional Irish food with outstanding flare ! Lamb stew is phenomenal as well as the meatloaf sandwich/burger. We also tried the Lexington bourbon barrel Amber ale that was unbelievable ! I'm... More
