innovative, yummy lunch

Stopped in Troy with my friend after skiing in Vermont, on our way back to NYC. A store owner recommended this place and they were completely right-it was the best meal I've had in the last month and I live in NYC, so there's a lot to choose from. Got the Cajun pork belly panini, which was... read more

I had lunch at the Illium Café in downtown Troy today with 3 friends. I ordered the special which was chicken pot pie. When our food arrived the "pot pie" was not hot but warm. Most disappointing though was the ingredients used, pressed, processed chicken roll! Not even real chicken. The side salad served was sparse and the tomatoes should... More

I really love this place. The atmosphere is friendly, the place is clean and the staff is top notch. Inventive cuisine (try the 'potato skins'-they are made from sweet potato rounds stuffed with duck breast and finished with a béchamel of some sort). There is really nothing run of the mill here, and yet it feels homey and unpretentious. It... More

I wanted to love this small "gourmet" breakfast joint but it just didn't do it for me. The waitress was very nice and charming, the coffee was pretty good, but the food was inconsistent. My friend got the French toast, which was very good. It was huge and delicious and covered in everything you want on your french toast. My... More

Delicious pork, scallops. Attentive service. Why were we seated by the wine frig when the room was empty when we left? Why do otherwise fine servers call my husband and me "guys"?, as in "how are you guys doing? But great food.

I've eaten at Illium Café twice now. Once for dinner (2 of us), once for lunch (3 of us). Highly recommend. Filet served with bleu cheesed potatoes and veggies - excellent, salmon served with Asian style veggies and a wasabi cake - excellent, Waldorf chicken wrap and coleslaw with oranges - excellent, ultimate grilled cheese - excellent, a very creative... We had lunch here before an Albany Symphony concert last year and when we returned this year there was no question of where we would go for lunch. The scallop quesadilla was my choice again. Both sides (potato salad and cole slaw) are great so my husband ordered the one and I the other and we shared. Service was quick... More

Two blocks from the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall is the Illium Café. It says is it is place for sandwiches, salads, soups and such, but, it also has a weekend dinner menu. Tired of the Golden Arches and want a REAL burger? Try their Kobe beef hamburger ($12). It comes with great beef flavor, non-greasy pomme frites, some lettuce,... More

We were in Troy for another occasion and decided to have dinner beforehand. We chose Illium Cafe, having eaten there for Breakfast and Lunch with much success but never having tried them for dinner. Sorry we waited so long. It was fabulous. I had the half size version of their seared scallops with sweet pea risotto and crispy proscuitto. It... More

Oneof the most excellent place in Troy, romantic, vintage feel. Never had an even average meal here. Should be packed all the time
