Snack before the show

Went here for smalls and drinks before a show. We didn't have a reservation and they were busy. The staff was quick to seat and serve us so we could be done before the next reservation showed up, but they didn't hurry us. The menu is interesting and varied as is the wine list, it was easy to pick... read more

Took my small staff to lunch here after we finished a big project. I've had dinner here before - fabulous. The sandwich/pannini menu offers lots of options and can be very enticing/daunting particularly if you are looking at it online and hungry! :) Round the table we had the Chimichurri Surf & Turf Sandwich, the ultimate grilled cheese and the... We had been meaning to go here for quite some time. We went for dinner and had a great meal. The building has maintained much of the character of the original building with tin ceilings and the woodwork and built in ovens in the kitchen. We thought we would need a reservation (for a Saturday night) but did not. It... More

Stopped in Troy with my friend after skiing in Vermont, on our way back to NYC. A store owner recommended this place and they were completely right-it was the best meal I've had in the last month and I live in NYC, so there's a lot to choose from. Got the Cajun pork belly panini, which was amazingly delicious, something... More

I had lunch at the Illium Café in downtown Troy today with 3 friends. I ordered the special which was chicken pot pie. When our food arrived the "pot pie" was not hot but warm. Most disappointing though was the ingredients used, pressed, processed chicken roll! Not even real chicken. The side salad served was sparse and the tomatoes should... More

I really love this place. The atmosphere is friendly, the place is clean and the staff is top notch. Inventive cuisine (try the 'potato skins'-they are made from sweet potato rounds stuffed with duck breast and finished with a béchamel of some sort). There is really nothing run of the mill here, and yet it feels homey and unpretentious. It... More

I wanted to love this small "gourmet" breakfast joint but it just didn't do it for me. The waitress was very nice and charming, the coffee was pretty good, but the food was inconsistent. My friend got the French toast, which was very good. It was huge and delicious and covered in everything you want on your french toast. My... More

Delicious pork, scallops. Attentive service. Why were we seated by the wine frig when the room was empty when we left? Why do otherwise fine servers call my husband and me "guys"?, as in "how are you guys doing? But great food.

I've eaten at Illium Café twice now. Once for dinner (2 of us), once for lunch (3 of us). Highly recommend. Filet served with bleu cheesed potatoes and veggies - excellent, salmon served with Asian style veggies and a wasabi cake - excellent, Waldorf chicken wrap and coleslaw with oranges - excellent, ultimate grilled cheese - excellent, a very creative... We had lunch here before an Albany Symphony concert last year and when we returned this year there was no question of where we would go for lunch. The scallop quesadilla was my choice again. Both sides (potato salad and cole slaw) are great so my husband ordered the one and I the other and we shared. Service was quick... More
