Closed and deserves to be closed. The pwners were always rude and if you did not have a man in your party, you may as well be invisable

We were driving through Tarrytown a few days ago and noticed Caravela empty and out of business. No surprise based on our first and last experience there in April 2013. A few others confirmed based on their reviews in June that poor attitude and service will not get customers in the door regardless of the food.

We stopped here on a Sunday evening while passing through Tarrytown -- unfortunately ignoring the fact that the place was almost empty, and without reading any reviews. Initially it seemed OK -- the food reasonably good, the service polite and efficient. The owner, however, did seem unhappy that we weren't ordering full meals. We had one soup, one salad, one... I am so glad that I ate here (6/13/13) before reading the reviews (very unlike me). Originally heading to a different restaurant in Tarrytown, we decided to stop at Caravela. The were 13 of us which included 10 adults and three 4 year olds. All of us Portuguese and Brazilian. It was a little before noon so no surprise that... More

After driving by Caravela's many times since we moved to the area, my husband and I finally made it over there this past Saturday for lunch. We both enjoy Brazilian and were looking forward to giving it a shot. Unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. We arrived around 1pm to an empty restaurant. After waiting several minutes for someone to appear... More

Several years ago we ate at Caravela, and while I don’t remember the specifics of that particular meal, I do recall that I wasn’t overwhelmed by it. On a recent trip to Tarrytown we decided to give the restaurant another shot, and we’re very glad we did. The Portuguese-Brazilian menu is a bit eclectic, leaning slightly more towards Portuguese cuisine,... More

Stopped in for lunch, attracted by the awning announcing Portugese and Brazilian cuisine, which we love. Server, who may have been the manager, gave us fixed price menus that seemed not as ethnic as the awning had advertised. When asked about the Portugese food, he gave us another menu that had more on it. Anyway, we settled on a veal... More

Went to Caravela last night and had delicious food. The stuffed clams were delicious. My husband had duck and was very happy with the dish. I had paella and it was delicious also. The salad with avocado dressing was delicious also. Dessert was their homemade tart with fruit. I would go back.

The fish we had had a slight ammonia type taste- really turned us off- appetizers were good, decor pretty good- in fairness to them we might have caught a "bad break" since the rest has been there for many years I guess they must be doing something right- we just didn't find it. and frankly won't go back

It is a restaurant not to miss, and hard to believe it is right in the heart of Tarrytown. It is easy to see that the chefs enjoy their creativity, and every dish I ever tried here was better than the last.
