Every trip to Syracuse includes a stop here. We actually bring a knife and butter with us. The best is when the bread is still warm, nothing better! Choices include flats, rounds and loaves. The smells of fresh baked bread are awesome. We usually bring some home, but there are no preservatives , so it won't last long!

When we return to Syracuse for the holidays we always make it a point to stop at Columbus Baking to pick up bread for Christmas. We usually get there between 10-11AM and the line is usually down the street. Unfortunately for us, this time of day is not a good time to get the flat bread or "flats" as these... More

OMG there is a slice of heaven in Syracuse. What a great little place. It is not the easiest place for parking but you will not be long. Learning how to order was the most challenging but I kept letting folks in front of me so I could listen to how they ordered. "Flat warm" was outstanding! They even sell... More

I have to whole-heartedly agree with the previous contributor that this place is an insult to real Italian bread. How in the world can people in this area tolerate this kind of bread? I picture somebody in Alabama opening up a can of tomato soup, throwing in some pasta and then putting it on this bread to make a spaghetti... More

A recent trip took us through Syracuse, and we were excited to try the #1 rated restaurant in the city. Unfortunately, the experience was notably underwhelming (or should I say overwhelming??). I love a good meatball sandwich--however, this was no meatball in a heel--this was a cow in a heel! They hollow out a massive half-loaf of bread, and stuff... More

It's a neat place with a lot of history. Feels like you are stepping back in time. Buy bread for dinner and stop next door for a meatball heal sandwich. They cut a loaf of fresh bread in half, pluck a little bit of the bread out, stuff it with meatballs and cheese. It's a meal the size of an... More

After reading all the great reviews and being a baker myself, I couldn't wait to visit this place. First, I guess that I must not have read correctly, because there was only one table to sit down to eat your sandwich. I didn't realize it was carry out only. Secondly, they only make two types of bread. The owners are... More

The homemade sandwiches for our trip home post Syracuse State Fair were delicious. Homemade meatballs with sauce, in their own house made, huge loaf of bread was fantastic. Note: The place is not fancy but definitely worth a visit. Also enjoyed the Italian pull apart roll round loaf. Enjoy!
