Old-World Chinese Treat

There were few sit-down diners there the night we stopped (a little late for dinner time),... More

I have been eating at China Road for close to 20 years when a Vietnamese grind took me there. It is always a good sign when you see Asians eating at a Chinese Restaurant because they know better than anyone how authentic Asian cuisine should taste. The food is always excellent and the prices are very reasonable. Since that first... More

Brother-in-law insisted we all had to try the eggroll, which turned out to be almost a meal in itself it was so big. I think next time I'll try a spring roll. The shrimp with honey walnuts was prepared differently than I expected but it was good nonetheless. The duck dish was pronounced to also be very good. I don't... More

Legend has it that the Chinese chef/owner of China Road was a chef in NYC upon his arrival from China and did not want to raise his kids in city. One day he decided to move his entire kit and caboodle Upstate some 20yrs back and opened up shop in an out of the way suburb of Syracuse not far... More

Not your average Chinese restaurant. Most authentic Chinese/Taiwanese food you are going to find in the area. Some of the negative reviews are from people who were looking for typical Chinese food. The real deal is saltier that Westerners are use to. These countries have a near tropical climate so they use more sodium. Just ask Simon to adjust it.... More

We were staying at a nearby hotel, and chose to order take-out from China Road on the advice of Happy Cow (a vegan website) We ordered tofu mixed vegetables and veg. dumplings, beef teriyaki, a spring roll and Singapore rice noodles. None of it tasted fresh, and it was all very dry. The tofu was slimy, the spring roll was... More

I've been going to this restaurant since it opened almost 20 yrs.ago. They have two menus, one authentic and one American / Chinese. After some prodding the owner, Simon got me to try the authentic menu and I never turned back. The flavors really pop. I love this place and will continue going as long as possible. The staff is... The curried Singapore noodles were salty, the House vegetables were chock a block with eggplant, not my first choice for a stir fry and oddly mushy. Service was lacking- we were served our entrees without rice and had to ask for it three times. The food was incredibly salty!

Always great food. Simon and his wife are always friendly, ready to please. Ingredients are fresh, taste is authentic. Today had - hot and sour soup, dumplings, shrimp, beef- all schezuan style. Reasonably priced. If you like good Chinese food- go here.

The Syracuse area is not famous for its Chinese food. That said, China Road is a great find for anyone craving well-prepared Chinese. Don't let the strip-mall location fool you: you'll get food that's basic but more creative and tasty than that place next to the (Fill in name of any big-box store) on Route (fill in number of any...
