Red Bar, Southampton

Went here over 4th of July weekend. One of my favorite restaurants in Southampton. We typically ask for a table in the small room off the bar. Otherwise the main dining room is just too noisy even though it's a pretty room. We all had cocktails to start, then salads. The 4 of us had different... read more

We stumbled upon this place on a visit to Southampton. It was late (10.30 pm) and we couldn't find a place open. So finally we managed to get here, it was open and packed. Oh well, packed means NOISE, like other reviewers already said. But this place is literally impossible, low ceilings, NOISY people (most of them overly drunk). The... More

Excellent food, but ambience has a lot to be desired. In all honesty it has been a while since I have eaten at Red Bar... but the lasting impression I got was... arghhh too noisy - couldn't hear my companion speak, they need drapes and carpets to soften the din.

The Red Bar is always good. Knowledgeable staff who know and understand the menu. They are willing to accomadate special requests or modifications to the printed menu. Their salads and appitizers are excelent as are their main dishes. I usually order the price fixed menu which has about half dozen choices, all reasonably priced a wide variety and always good.... Everything including the service was first rate and always consistent. Very pleasant room which can become a little noisy when packed. Preparation of food is always pleasing and done right.

Nice table, staff, wine, & food. But lighting was low and noise level was high! Food couldn't be seen. Terrible light? Why is this so. Food is good to be seen.

I copied some of another's post because I had the exact experience. Food was good.. The level of noise makes any conversation impossible. Atmosphere candle light reflected in porch windows very charming but the noise was so disturbing I don't understand how this restaurant remains very popular. I could not wait to leave.

We come to the Hamptons out of season and book every dinner here for the long weekend. Fabulous menu with lots of varied choices. Lovely, light room. The waiter even remembered us from our last visit for our anniversary-- such a sweetheart.

We were in Southampton out of season so had no problem getting into the small and intimate restaurant that had been recommended to us. Glad we did as we almost had the place to ourselves. Nice menu selection and decent not great service. I ordered the endive salad with pears and stilton because I was craving something sweet but healthy... More
