Enjoyed a great seasonal meal with tasty drinks. They were very friendly and helped to make a special occasion come together bringing over glasses of bubbly as per a phone call before. Pricey but very comfortable feel and top notch food and service.

The food is good, sometimes very good, but I just don't understand the pricing. Having said that, we keep going. Last night's dinner was good--bay scallop ceviche and steak. Service is very hit and miss and last night was a miss. But, like I said, we will keep going back.

We tried the Vine Street Cafe on a recommendation from a family member. We chose an early reservation due to our long distance ride home from the East End. Decor is farmhouse modern, very open, bright and clean. Staff very friendly and didn't rush us. Our original plan to have the famous Pasta Bolognese but that got derailed when we... More

Went on a Monday evening in September....risky. We were not disappointed. Dinner was great, service was great,. Not a cheap night... But the setting was wonderful, good selection of wines, and no one hurried us out. Thought the steak was pricey...in the end it was worth every penny. A wonderful night.

We celebrated our 25th Anniversary at Vine Street Cafe and were very impressed! Decor was simple, yet charming. I asked the host if he could possibly sit us at a secluded table in the corner that was not yet set up for dinner. He was more than accommodating and extremely courteous. Our waitress was attentive and sweet. We had the... More

We loved this restaurant would have been happy to return but unfortunately we had to go home. There is a good selection of choices for food here. I had a spicy pasta with sea food and zucchini which was wonderful. My husband had swordfish with mashed potatoes and spinach all of which were excellent. I would recommend this restaurant highly.

Perhaps you've had the feeling that you should have ordered the other person's choice? As I watched my pal devouring his New York strip steak (a stiff $51 plate) while I ferreted among my moules frites, I wondered whether the extra twenty bucks for his dish was worth it. The mussels were perfectly okay, although the frites seemed a bit... More

We really enjoyed this cosy restaurant. Huge emphasis on local produce such as delicious seafood and seasonal vegetables. Extensive local wines and charming service. Decor is polished rustic. Not the cheapest meal we had but portions were generous and quality reflected price. I recommend the linguine with seafood and courgette, still dreaming about it now!

The irony in the name is that of course Vine St is anything but a cafe. Starched white table cloths, formal wait staff, expensive menu! This is fine dining! I'd read reviews saying that this is the best restaurant on the island, I had a really delicious meal: warm baguette and butter, oysters to start and then sea bass entree-... More

I was very happy to find this place, and especially a vacant table outside, since it was summer and a bit overly-noisy inside. I had some of the best meals, especially fish and oysters were outstanding. Professional service, a bit informal, but this is Shelter Island. Very recomended!
