Order their opera lunches; fabulous

We have never visited this place, but we order opera picnics every year that we go to Glimmerglass, and the Black Cat never lets us down. The picnics can be picked up whenever you want before the matinees, and they are always yummy, with a main, a salad and a dessert. You can order duck confit, or... read more

We had planned to eat at the American Hotel but found it only served meals on the weekend. So we were directed across the street to the Black Cat - a pleasant diversion it turned out. The "Thanksgiving Everyday" sandwich was excellent. The turkey was moist, dressing tasty and the bread excellent. The house salad with lemon dressing and fresh... More

Small quaint town hosts this great eating establishment. Inside or outside seating. Excellent sandwich combinations and lovely baked goods to boot. When your done check out the gift shops down the block.

Try the curry chicken salad on their homemade raisin bread! Fresh, delicious, costly (figure around $30 for two people for lunch)

This cafe serves excellent sandwiches. Besides their location in Sharon Springs, an old resort town from the early 20th century currently undergoing a revival, the black Cat also is the supplier of all the picnic boxes at the Glimmerglass Opera Festival which is only 20-25 minutes away,

I love corned beef and if you do too, try anything Tony has on the menu with it in it! He makes his own corned beef right there so it is always consistantly great!

We knew we were in trouble when we asked for a cappuccino and the girl behind the bar at the Black Cat CAFE asked us "What's in a cappuccino? An espresso shot and milk, right?" ...Well...that cappuccino ended in a garbage can after one sip...Amen

Terribly sorry! You were waited on by a trainee on her second day is the explanation, but it is NOT an excuse! She took the initiative to serve you without getting her trainer, and she made a mistake. We've encouraged her but let her know to ask for help until she is fully capable. Anyway, it is our fault, unacceptable... More

Every year, once summer ends, I look forward to returning the following summer to the Cooperstown region, and one of the things I look forward to the most is eating at the Black Cat. Tony, the fantastic owner/host, is as knowledgeable about food as he is welcoming and fun to visit with. The baked goods are impossible to resist, the... More

Please remember this is a very small town and the small shops and restaurants that are very much dependent on travelers. Small space with decent food and service that says they are trying hard. Very pleasant if you have reasonable expectations.
