We recently visited with friends on a very cold Saturday evening. As soon as we walked in, you could tell this is a restaurant that is popular with the locals. The place was busy in spite of the weather conditions. The restaurant has a nice, homey feel about it. We had to wait a few minutes for our table, but... More

This is an excellent old white-table cloth Italian restaurant in a comfortable neighborhood setting a stones throw from the Casino and Thorobred Track. The food and wine are high quality and it's so nice being served by waitstaff who truly enjoy people. Portions are generous, rare when most Italian restaurants bury meat under a mountain of melted cheese. I highly... More

This place has apparently been there for over 90 years. I'm not sure why, as there are a lot of restaurants nearby. If I was to guess, I'd say the bar business keeps it alive. The food is okay Italian. The sauce is good but not "knock your socks off" good. The service was very good and attentive. I had... More

We love the food at this place. We like to go here at least twice during our vacations. Tonight we were told we would have to wait 40 minutes for a table for two. Long, but worth it. After waiting for an hour and 5 minutes, we asked when our table would be ready. They told us it would be... More

Nice waitress but the food was very mediocre. Large portions of Italian food with cups of tomato sauce poured on top.

I thought the prices were very high. I paid $18 for the lasagna and it was nothing special. The dining room was extremely noisy, so loud that I was unable to have a conversation with my husband sitting across the table from me. We waited about 45 minutes for a table for two. I was first told 10 minutes. After... More

My husband and I are year-round customers at Pennells and have been for years. It is a different place during August, when the best items (shrimp Genoese, for example) are removed from the menu. Excellent food is replaced with mediocre offerings, which can be prepared quickly (frozen items?). Service also changes for the worse during August. I do not recommend... More

The only redeeming factor about this restaurant was it's Garlic butter for the bread. The meatball on pasta was way too big to even contemplate and the sausage that accompanied that tasted exactly the same. It had a minty type taste on it. I really disliked Pennell's. It was extremely overpriced too coupled with the noisy atmosphere.

We went here after a long day at the track and some drinks at a bar close by. It being a Saturday, we knew getting in may be a problem. We arrived about 9pm, I think. We found a table in the bar area, much to our delight. I ordered the chicken parm and my bf ordered the steak(per a... More

The pastas were delicious and the portions overlarge. The service was excellent. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that is was quite noisy, until later in the evening. It seemed to be very popular with locals and we were delighted we followed our hosts' suggestion
