Always a favorite

It's a favorite of mine throughout the year. The service can be a little spotty in the summer with all the crowds...but the food hardly ever disappoints. In the winter it is a favorite of all the locals...and the bar is always crowded. Outside on the terrace, you never know who you will see...but... read more

The food never fails to disappoint; despite this, you must stop by for a cocktail. The bar offers great people watching and the decor delivers to you a bygone era.

I love this place. It's a mixture of an English gentleman club and a far west saloon. The staff is top notch, the owner is totaly dedicated and the location is perfect.

Although we had a reservation, we waited 45 minutes to sit at a table that was not the one we had reserved (outside). The man who looked like the owner or manager, in a very elegant white blazer, played the host with a cocktail in his had with the locals, could not care less about us waiting & when the... More

We stayed at the hotel and also had the pleasure to dine there as well. Besides the excellent customer service, the food and the staff is AMAZING!

The American Hotel is a local favorite -- always classy, cozy and ideal for business meetings and romantic outings. The food is delicious, and the service is old-school outstanding. Eating outside on the terrace is beautiful when it's warm: perfect for watching people and being watched by all the locals and celebrities in Sag Harbor. Upscale yet friendly and comfortable.... Fine dining in well-known 19th century landmark hotel. Eclectic choice of meats, fish, pastas, vegan plus extensive wine list in one of the quietest places to eat in the Hamptons. Brunch, lunch and dinner service. Expensive.

My hosts are regulars here throughout the year so where else to go on a Saturday night, the sun is still shining and Sag Harbour is buzzing with people coming down now for the weekend, Yes it is old school, a little shabby around the edges but they have nailed the meet and greet element, first name terms for their... The American Hotel is an institution in the Hamptons. We have had dinners and lunches and brunches there more times than I can count. It has never disappointed. The restaurant is beautiful. Old world charm. The food is ok. I enjoyed my sandwich but my family did not like the burgers at all. We had to send back the lobster bisque. I enjoyed the French onion soup. The prices are very high, which is expected in that town. I probably would not go back.
