It was Tuesday after Labor Day and we were able to score a table on the small porch which was a perfect setting. The service was OK but not perfect due to our supercilious waiter's "I am into me rather than you" attitude. The food was the perfect antidote. We shared the pâté and I had the duck entree, one... My wife and I dined here for lunch today and the experience was nothing less than superb. For starters, (and after drooling over some of my passed over options on the menu) she ordered the blue crab and avocado appetizer, which comes in a martini glass with avocado and endive surrounding a size able amount of luscious crab meat, ...... We were recently visiting friends in Sag Harbor after some thirty years. We always remember the American hotel years ago, very dark, usually empty, and dreary. It is a structure from the twenties or earlier. To our surprise, the hotel has made an amazing transformation! It has come alive with a multi lingual staff, charming tasteful interior, eclectic menu and... More

I love the space and it's the kind of place where people run into friends all the time. The service is great, but the meals are pretty old school and way overpriced for what you get. The meals are fine, just boring and should be excellent for what they charge. The happy hour is excellent. I'd rather spend my money... More

The American Hotel for the last 30 to 40 years used to be a stalwart in the Hamptons restaurant scene and we had many great experiences both in summer as well as in winter. Recently, however, it seems that the place has gone severely downhill, both with regards to the quality of food as well as the service. The wine... More

Loved the staff and the food - great place, would go back in a second. Seafood is delicious. Environment is wonderful. Really enjoyed Sag Harbor and this place. Recommend the crab cakes!

Went there while celebrating my Dads 70th birthday weekend. Its a classic old style restaurant complete with piano player. The food is not innovative but sticks to the classics and does it well. Everyone enjoyed there meal and had a great time. The waiter was excellent and must have overheard that it was my dads 70th and had the piano... More

Despite our dressed down Sag Harbour boho chic, our 'plummy' English accents betrayed the fact that we were 'out of towners' and the six of us were dumped outside the fun areas into a twinkly passageway called the 'atrium'. It was a Monday evening and there were dead roses on the table. Our charmingly exploitative waiter calculated how little attention... More

Atmosphere is old world charm, service is professional and the food, devine. You will be pleased with almost anything you order. I had the sweetbreads to start, a small portion but very good, and the duck as an entree was excellent. We shared a dessert of chocolate something or other, also very good. the bar area is noisy. I opt... More

The restaurant is a nice place to eat. Diverse menu. The Lobster BLT is good. Didn't get a chance to eat on the porch which would have been lovely but a good place to stop for a bite. Awful town to park in though. I do believe they watch the out of town cars in order to issue $50 tickets.... More
