EXCELLENT FOOD, GOOD SERVICE, NOISY ANCIENT CROWD

We are frequent visitors to the area and have tried many restaurants in the area. We have walked by numerous times and noticed how elegant the hotel was. So I booked a reservation. As we walked in I noticed the crowd. Older patrons and appeared to already be three sheets to the wind and it was 8:30... read more

The preparation of food at the american hotel is an art for the senses. Flavor and presentation amazed our gourmet group. That said, beware on a busy night. You can get cramped into a spot, and best tables are hard to get. The service is attentive but not always genuinely perceived. In other words, a bit snooty at times. If... More

The American Hotel is always a fun place to visit. The Bartenders have been here for a super long time and make good strong drinks ! We prefer to go during the week in the Winter when it's quiet. Our favorite time is to go when it's super snowy and have a drink and then dinner by the fireplace. The... More

After a extremely disappointing lunch at a pier take out, we discarded our take out and ventured over to the American Hotel. We were seated on n the rear, oh so quiet great crab cakes and

We love dining here, near the fireplace and bar or the garden room. The food is always good. I always get the tuna sesame in brodo, with vegetables and I am never disappointed. Briefly, there was a stint when it came out too salty but I mention that and it's still wonderful. Nice place on the expensive side.

The 4 of us recently had dinner at the American Hotel. The food was excellent and the serivce was supreme. We enjoyed lobster bisque, shrimp cocktail (the biggest shrimp I have ever seen) and scallops for appetizers. They were all delicious and excellently prepared. The 2 girls enjoyed crab cakes for their entrée after having a green salad. The two... More

The hotel has been around for ages and 40 years ago when Sag Harbor was still rough around the edges, Ted Conklin came in, stocked a phenomenal cellar and built a restaurant around American classics. Heavy on local favorites like tiny bay scallops and venison, the hotel menu seldom changes which seems to be the way everyone likes it. The... More

I always enjoy the ambience and food at The American Hotel. The staff is usually efficient and accommodating. Unfortunately. I have encountered very rude behavior from the bartenders when visiting with guests , The first time ,I overlooked the unprofessional reaction to a slightly busy afternoon and remembered that "everyone can have a bad day". The second time was obnoxious,however... More

The best of both worlds. The American Hotel Restaurant is located on Main Street in historic Sag Harbor and serves exceptional classic American/French cuisine. The building which dates back to 1846 has 4 dining rooms to choose from each offering a different ambiance. There were 10 of us for lunch so we had a chance to try many dishes and... More
