Historic Sag Harbor staple

A good place to go when the town is a bit quieter--not my favorite place to navigate a crowd in. Decor is historical and classic. Offers a great margarita. The last great, old school bar in the Hamptons. Skip dinner (overpriced and never great) and go direct to the bar.

Four of us enjoyed an excellent lunch/brunch at the American Hotel the Saturday after New Years Day. It's a very pretty dining room, with a New England-type feel and was a perfect environment for the holidays. Two of us enjoyed really good French onion soup -- best I've had outside of Paris -- and the others in our party loved... More

Good food and very pleasant ambience. Also, a world class wine list. The service is usually flawless.

Stopped by for drinks and appetizers at the bar . Lovely warm Xmas decorated ambiance. The bartender was great as well as the drinks and appetizers. Years ago I had dinner there and it was always delicious . Sometimes you have to wait for your reservations. They are usually very busy.

One of the oldest destinations in the US, an historic landmark, this appropriately named American Hotel, has a few rooms, and better know for its restaurant. They have a wine nice wine list, and the most impressive PORT offerings second to none. Make a big splash and take you guests and see their reaction as you sip the sweet nectar... More

I always feel a welcome and valued visitor. If you like great food, wine, and a charming ambience come to The American Hotel. I especially recommend it for lunch when the sun streams in to the garden room.

Man ... We were seated so late it's unreal. We were here on time - spent an hour in the bar and were barely recognized by the front counter ... Food was great once we got in. Obviously, not used to a crowd.

Tried and true, wonderful in all seasons--on the porch in summer, by the fire in winter, the atrium, the bar, the music room and the Back room -- you are always assured top notch service, lovely ambience and most of all the great menu and wine list. Bartender Vinnie is extraordinary!

Full disclosure - I've dined and imbibed well, if expensively, at American Hotel for decades since its (re)invention. Across many of those years, the Village had yet to catch-up to this venue's sophistication... For much of this time-span, American Hotel was both a centerpiece and an outpost. Today, while the Hotel remains as visually striking and, judging by the crush... More
