If a kitchen is the heart of a home this bakery is the heart of Rosendale. Stopped in after dinner. They were open late because it was the Rosendale Night Market -- a fun event in its own right. We all enjoyed our delicious desserts -- two brownies, an apple pastry, and a plum tart (if we were more competitive... More

I ordered a gluten-free birthday cake in advance. My husband picked it up the day of our event and the writing on the cake looked like it had been done by a 3 year old. It was a solid source of humor until we went to eat it. The absolute worst. The fact that it was expensive made it hurt... More

Such a shame you did not call and speak to me and express your disappointment. Pleasing the customer, when given the opportunity, is my goal. Please allow me the chance to redeem my good name and standing. More

It's wonderful the only negative is that it isn't open every day. The breads and pastries are terrific. The owner and baker is such a lovely man. The foccaccia is the best.

We made their focaccia egg sandwich. Got to pick which of their focaccia we wanted. Perfect for 4 people! Taking half home. You know it's true European Style when the chef brings his Jack Russell to work.

I was on a drive to no where in particular and I saw The Alternative Baker and made a U-turn and found a parking space and went in to kind of browse around the bakery and see what they have. I was taking my time and deciding what I wanted. I met the owner, Essell, he was a very pleasant... More

I was staying in New Paltz and on my last morning decided to try this bakery for the rave reviews about the lemon cakes. We love lemon poppy anything. When I arrived I decided to have a breakfast sandwich on a roll. Loved it and the roll and never before had mustard on an egg breakfast sandwich. Glad I did.... More

Thank you Zacharys1 for your kind but honest review of my bakery. I am sorry I was not able to fulfill your desire for an unglazed lemon cake. They are baked in a large batch and I keep it very simple as the process is very stressful with the timing of all the various sizes and what have you. I... More

I did not have the same experience that most of my fellow travelers have had. While I like the funky atmosphere of Big Cheese, which is directly across the street, the feel of The Alternative Baker was more of a cluttered garage. The young woman that behind the counter was very pleasant. I purchased three pieces of pastry; an oatmeal... More

Thanks for taking the time to give your opinion. Of course, one's tastes are one's own and are not subject to argument, but there are a few corrections i must make to your statements. We do not make a chocolate oatmeal raisin cookie,. We make chocolate crunch cookies and oatmeal raisin cookies, among others. Both all butter cookies have won... More

We tried the lemon cake that seems to be one if their claim fi fame items. It was moist and lemony but turned out not to be my favorite Item. Don't get me wrong, this was quality lemon cake - I was just blown away by the thin buttery delicious crunchy chocolate chip cookie. The carrot cake cupcake was wonderful... More

We were planning a college graduation party for my daughter, who is vegan. She very much wanted a cake for the party...but, a vegan cake. So, the hunt began for a bakery that offered vegan options. I found the website for The Alternative Baker and liked very much what I read. So, off we went to meet with the owner... More
